I currently have an XP partition and a 7 Pro upgrade disc. I am using the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers and XP works fine except the F key alts don't work due to an error during install (volume up, down, etc. A way to fix this would be great).

From my understanding, while not officially supported, it is possible to get 7 running on a partition. Could someone shed some light on how to go about this, is is reliable, and should I just wait for Apple to officially support it?

I have had it installed on my MacBook and Pro, seems to be OK with Vista drivers.
Windows update will also suggest driver updates if it feels they're suitable.

Do you have an empty/sacrificial partition?

Sure do. I have an XP partition I set up specifically to upgrade to 7.

Note that there is no "upgrade from XP to 7." You have to install 7 over your XP installation, wiping out everything in the process. Bad job, Redmond. So if you have any data at all, documents or what have you, make sure you back them up before you take the plungs.

The partition is a blank slate really. Only installed Firefox, Dropbox, and McAfee. I haven't even done any Windows Updates yet.

Currently installing. I had to format the BC partition from FAT32 to NTFS. Installing is going quicker than XP ever did so far.
