Hey apple, you forgot to update your "displays" icon

Just realized that the icon for "displays" in the menu bar still looks like the old cinema displays from the G4 towers, Apple what's the deal, did you forget to redraw that icon?

The computer icon in the Finder still looks like an iMac G4. That product was discontinued before the release of Tiger. I don't think Apple cares so much.

The "G4" monitors shipped with the G5's for over a year.

yeah but not when tiger was out, what's the point of beautifully crafted icons that look like the hardware, if you don't update them so they look like the hardware everyone is now using?

The position of "Senior Art Director in charge of icon correlation-ness" at Apple has probably been Steve'd

I'm using a MDD G4 and an iBook from 2003.
Not everyone buys the newest Mac the day it comes out.
And even fewer dispair about default icons. If you don't like it, change it yourself.

it might be because the displays menu bar icon is only useful for people with CRT monitors that don't have native resolutions.
I have never used it.

In 10.4 it's hardly even useful for that anymore! If they manage to add a Display (color) Profile selector to the menu then that might add some use to it.

Nope, actually less than a year.
The G5 shipped in August '03. The aluminum displays were released in June '04.

i think you misread his post.
he wasn't saying "the aluminum displays have not been shipping for a year yet"
he said "the g4 displays only shipped with g5's for less than 1 year" (from august of 03 until june of 04 = 10 months of G4 displays shipping with G5's)

The mouse in the "Mouse & Keyboard" preferences is also one of the old translucent mice, not one of the new Mighty or Bluetooth mice.
Who cares? The old monitors, the G4 iMacs, and the old mice all looked better than their modern counterparts. That's probably why they left them on the icons.
