Dear Bryan,

We hope you're enjoying the convenience and selection of Netflix. Our goal has always been to offer a great service at a great price, and we're dedicated to bringing you the largest library of films delivered quickly to your home.

Since launching our service almost four years ago, the subscription rate for the 3-at-a-time program has never changed. We've added more than 20 distribution centers in order to provide one business day delivery to most of our members. We've also expanded our library by thousands of titles and now offer more than 18,000 to choose from. During the four years, improvements such as these, as well as postal rate changes, have increased the cost of doing business.

Beginning June 15, 2004, we will be raising the prices of all our subscription programs. Your plan, the Netflix 3-at-a-time program, will change from $19.95 per month to $21.99 per month.

We believe our service offers an exceptional value and hope you'll continue to enjoy the benefits of Netflix at the new price. We realize that you have many home entertainment choices, and we appreciate your business.

Yours Truly,
The Netflix Team

I still love the service though, and turnaround has increased a ton.

I got the same message this morning. No big deal, even at the increased price the service is still a good value. I will continue my subscription.

Swell. You're saving a couple bucks by doing business with a company that has racist human resources policies and aggressive, borderline monopolistic, culture degrading expansion tactics that are putting people out of business and cheapening communities all over this country.

Enjoy the ill-gotten riches you achieve through saving your $5.

Just had a 23 million dollar library built down the road and they have everything, and those I cannot find there I get from Netflix. Well, now I'll just get them from Wal-Mart , probably one of the greatest chains in the world.

It would seem that moms go to libraries more than most.

Crap... I just joined up two months ago, and they jacked the price up...

I'm cool with paying another 10% especially considering that I'm the largest leach I know...

I have rented 39 movies since I opened my account on January 29th.

Yeah, I usually require the one-on-one attention of someone while picking out dogfood, videos, soft drinks, or any other items you can find in one place like a Wal-Mart, instead of going to every little mom and pop store in a town.

How romantic...

There is one chain that I do despise. Blockbuster. Too many reasons to get into, but it is appropriate for the topic of this thread.

Wal-Mart is a great place to go if you want to learn Spanish too! Great Perk...

Netflix at this point has faster turn around than Walmart, or any other service does.

I'm just under 30 miles from the DC distribution center... I can throw them in the mail on Monday, they receive them on Tuesday and ship three new ones, I get them on Wednesday, throw them in the mail on Thursday they receive them on Friday and send out new ones and I receive them on Saturday evening...

Then the whole cycle starts over again. Naturally I can't always watch three movies on Wednesday night, but I'll usually hold one or two until the next Monday.

With a little work, I can get six movies a week. or app. 24 a month... at around $1 a movie...

After Inglewood shenanigans, Walmart is approaching all that you suggest of them.

My point is, Wal-Mart according to him is EVIL and the majority of people who patronize Wal-Mart are mexican, so they therefore according to his argument, are patronizing an evil establishment that takes advantage of people, and those that shop there are getting evil profits... soooooooo, he thinks all mexicans that shop there are EVIL.

Duh.

They jacked up the price of the program I'm on even more. The 8-out program is going to be raised to 49.99 from 39.99! Ouch!

But I refuse to buy anything from Wal-Mart. Quite possibly the worst retail chain ever.

And, damn that is a steep increase. You could try to call them up and cancel. I did it with Earthlink and they dropped my monthly rate from $21.95 to $9.99.

walmart and blockbuster are going to try to take netflix down.
this has been stated all over the business community for awhile.

i hope both companies go belly up.

netflix is one of the few inet companies that provided a good service and survived the bubble!

these huge goddamn companies that are a bunch of johnnie come latelies can F*()off. seriously. don't support walmart or blockbuster (viacom) over a small good company like netflix.

netflix offers a lot more in terms of selection and service and attitude that are well worth the extra $5 they might charge a month.

hell if netflix raised my $20/month to $25 a month it would still be worth it. better than going to the store to sift through a bunch of crap you don't want to see anyway.

EDIT: ignore this post. I meant DVDovernight.com. Move along, nothing to see here.

It seems whenever I go to the Netflix web site and decide to start using the service, they are out of 75% of the DVDs I want to rent.

So I cancel signing up and go to the local Blockbuster and spend more. But at least I get the videos I want.

Ya know, I really meant DVDovernight.com. I didn't try Netflix because they don't tell you until you sign up whether or not the DVDs are out or not.

How is that by the way? Are videos usually always available? DVDovernight seems to always be out of new releases.

Yah, the top movies are always "long wait" but I've found that if you fill up your list with every movie that you want to check out (I have around 80 or so) I always have a movie I want to see...)

If you want the movie NOW, I would probably go with BlockBuster or someone...

I have never had a problem with a movie having a long wait. Even Matrix: Revolutions showed up at my door the day after it was released in stores. I've found that Netflix always has a great inventory.

So what you are saying is that the company that first introduces a product or service should have exclusive rights to it? No one else is allowed to compete with them?

Same here, I have not had to wait, unless it was a rare DVD...

And even then, by the time it got to the top, the wait status was gone .

Also: Walmart MAY be fast for some people, but not all.

Netflix was 2-3 days for me when I firt started, then it seems they opened a distribution center in madison, so I get em in 1 or 2 days now. And they seem to be keeping up with new anime too .

I've read my homework regarding NetFlix. They have the most distribution centers and have years of proven service. The jury is still out regarding many of these other things.

I guess I never rent anything that just came out... Though when I do I never have a long wait... (Also, I like using netflix, cuz I can't get most of it at your average rental place.)

Well, according to the link I posted, it has to do with how many movies you rented last month. You probably rent fewer movies than mitchell_pgh.

Okay...wtf is going on?!

Who here works for Netflix, because as soon as I say all the movies in my queue say they are available now, THIS HAPPENED THIS MORNING!!

Screenshot

I think it's just a DB error, because they received 4 movies I just finished this morning, and the next four are shipping out today. It's kind of weird that every single movie (163) went to 'Very Long Wait' this morning.

I received a movie from them, I never ordered, and what's more, I couldn't find it in their database when I returned it!

Customer service shrugged it off, but I found it disturbing.
