It costs twice as much as a Shuffle, and it appears to be larger. The Shuffle is the best mp3 player ever. It clips onto your clothing and is very functional.

Oops, that's for 2.

Smooth post man.
To answer your question though it is the same price as the shuffle but has these added features:
25 free songs
Rotating OLED Display
FM Tuner
28 hour battery
5-Band Equalizer
Quick battery charge (3 min charge = 3 hrs playback)
Shuffle... more colours.
But I'd still buy a shuffle anyday

One thing about the iPod vs its competitors: the iPod is probably the only mp3 player, large or small that doesn't have an FM tuner.
While I don't think this is a dealbreaker, it's just strange that it isn't included in the iPod. My mother bought an FM add-on for her nano. It works for her, but it isn't 'Apple elegant'.

That's 25 songs if you sign up with their Music service.
But your right, I messed up thinking that was for one. But I didn't mess up as far as my choice. The Shuffle G2 is so much better.

The 25 free songs are through Sony's Connect store. I used to use a Sony MiniDisk Walkman, and the SonicStage software was a nightmare. I don't know if it's still as bad, though.
As for FM, I don't see why people count that as a demerit. If you're listening to your MP3s, why do you need a radio? I mean, it's nice to have and FM radio, but that would add to the bulk, too. I have a radio remote, but I hardly use the radio.

Why would you want to listen to FM radio if you have an ipod? Isn't that the point of getting an ipod? So you can listen to YOUR music without commercials and annoying DJs?
An FM tuner would be like the last thing I'd want. I like the shuffle, but if it has ANY display, I think that'd be kinda nice... when you were wanting to find an artist or certain album. That said, I guess that's why I like nanos.

I hate radio. I don't get why everybody wants devices to have it nowadays. Like, we don't have to be slaves to Clear Channel's tastes anymore. We can stick the music we like on our MP3 players — and probably have a much better selection that we'd get from the radio to boot!

You can't get the traffic, weather or latest news reports ripped to MP3 fast enough to beat the radio.

What is Sony thinking? They have a brand, they might as well try and get SOMETHING out. Even if it's not as good as an iPod. That said I really kinda think I might want an orange shuffle.

AM/FM for the iPod would be nice, the add-on thinga-ma-bob is a bit weird. But damn those Sony sticks are ugly ... very cool display on a very odd-looking player.

That's what an iPhone is for.

I use the FM radio on the phone frequently. Good for catching the news while commuting to work.

The what??? Is that like public radio? They still have commercials, they're just called annoying DJs begging for donations.

Honestly, this thing beats the shuffle in every way except for size. There really is nothing sony can change though to make it better by making it smaller/more storage/features etc. We would still want the iPod for some reason.

The CBC is the equivalent of the BBC in the UK. It is funded by tax money. There are no ads, there is no begging. There are no interruptions. Just let it go, Rob.
