Director arrested while dressed in drag - for prostitution.

We're not talking about some has-been director, here. This is Lee Tamahori, the guy who is actively and recently directing movies, like Along Came A Spider with Morgan Freeman.

I thought Hugh Grant was a loser when he cheated on Liz Hurley to go out with Divine Brown, a Hollywood hooker/transvestite, but I'd say that this guy even beats Hugh.

IIRC he was engaged, not married. Still doesn't make him any less of an idiot though.

What's all this about Divine Brown being a transvestite? First I've heard about that - I thought she (it?) was a genuine female. She's (it's?) a bloke?

Divine Brown is a woman, she is currently working as a prostitute at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch.

Sorry, you're right. Divine is just a hooker.

I was thinking of Eddie Murphy picking up hooker transvestites.

Maybe Eddie Brown should act in movies directed by Lee Tamahori?

Sounds like a perfect match!

Hollywood sucks. Really. Think about it. Celebrities are the new greek gods. Above us all, yet we want to see them as human.

Sounds like senior sociology theses.

Blame the media, not Hollywood. They're the ones that give them the face time. Then blame everyone else, because they care enough that the media makes money for showing such things.

I assume you meant to say Hollywood should just be quiet and act? If so, the problem is that they try to do their jobs and have to deal with EVERY little thing they do being put into the media. It would be like if the media followed you around 24/7, taking pictures, writing stories, etc. How would you like that? You're just trying to do your job and live your life and the media is hounding you even when you are NOT working. Sounds fun, huh?

Kind of hard to do with the media following your every move though don't you think? Do you honestly think actors WANT their every move and mistake written about in the media?

I think this may be the first thread ever where WDLove has specifically replied to someone other than Cody Dawg.

Why? In any artform, acting included, there is an act of self-expression involved that often involves the actor/actress' personal life and/or politics.

Everybody has some sort of opinion. If people want to put more stock in the opinion of an athlete, celebrity, musician, or entertainer, I suppose that is their prerogative. It seems unfair that celebrities are given their own forum for voicing their opinions via the media, but I don't blame them for taking advantage of this, as I would likely do the same. The problem is, nobody cares what *I* think

I blame the media (e.g. gossip magazines) for being fixated on these people and elevating them beyond mortal status, and people who buy into these sorts of things to keep the cycle going. Some celebrities have very interesting insight into things that is intelligent, even if not agreed upon (e.g. Jon Stewart, George Clooney, Dennis Miller, Michael Moore, etc.). I pay attention to them because of their track records for offering intelligent food for thought, not because they are celebrities. Them being celebrities doesn't add more credibility to what they say - in fact, at times I have to consider their disconnect with common working people, and take what they say with a grain of salt. The fact that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are having a baby (I'm bothered by the fact that I even know this) does not make what they say any more valid.

Unfortunately, there are going to be people influenced by celebrities. But, if you take celebrities out of the picture, they'll likely find somebody else to be influenced by. There are thinkers, and there are followers.

Jon and Dennis make that list. George and Moore do not.
