I did have a problem involving "missing extents" and a couple of other things. Basically, my Mac would not boot.

Diskwarrior was just coming out, I was lucky enough to get it on the same day as my Apple store got it. They actually pulled it out of the shipping box.

Anyway, it totally saved the day. Fixed the numerous problems that Disk Utility was unable to fix. Computer booted, no data was lost.

So, what does diskwarrior do? It does not seem to defragment, yet, does seem to speed up a cluttered drive, somewhat.

It "optimizes" but what is that? It seems like it's doing some type of directory tree manipulation and verification, but I have no idea.

Anyone shed some light on this mysterious product?

try reading the info at Alsoft Inc. - they make it and they explain it pretty well!
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity...
