Well, just as the thread is titled, how do you do it? I'm looking to put a cool picture in the background, and I know it can be done, but how? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you're using a 3rd party Message Style with a BG picture already, just open:
Username > ApplicationSupport >Adium 2.0 > Message Styles > style.AdiumMessageStyle and view contents... Edit the BG property in the CSS and make sure you include the graphic in that styles image folder and reload the Adium Style.
