We got my wife a new MacBook to replace her 800MHz G4 iBook, and for the most part Migration Assistant moved everything we needed it to. Except for her iCal and Address Book data, of course. I've moved her iCal calendars successfully, but I can't figure out how to migrate her whole Address Book. I'd rather not export a bazillion vcards, so is there a way to transfer the whole thing?

Make a backup of your addresses: open Address Book and select to make a backup from the File menu.

I'm surprised you're having such problems with Migration Assistant … you shouldn't have to do this by hand.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

That's what I thought about Migration Assistant. I couldn't migrate a backup of iCal, so I hadn't thought about using a backup of Address Book. I'll give it a shot.

Later...

Yep. The backup moved quick and easy. I guess it was the difference between a "part of the OS" app and an iLife app...

Thanks!

Apparently there's also some difference in the Address Book data between Tiger and Leopard.
I'm not too knowledgeable about it, but here's one link i found: Leopard Address Book Data.

ghporter, in the Tiger address book, do a select all of all your contacts. Drag off to the desktop your contacts- you will have one file. Drag and drop this file onto the Leopard address book window.
