My Aunt recently purchased an ibook off the dreaded ebay. And now I have reason that she unfortunately received a stolen item. It's an ibook G4 800 and seems to have been part of a school network. After she came to the problem to me i soon realized I couldn't get past the login screen. I can't boot from my panther cd's. When i press the option key to manually select the cd I am given the an OS 9 looking splash screen that displays a lock w. a text box I enter presumably a password. My Aunt feels extremely guilty and wants to possibly know if she could find out information on the computer that would enable her to return the stolen ibook. However I think the only way to bypass the lock is to simply erase the Hard Drive. The Ebay AssHole won't return our emails and my Aunt was naive enough to purchase from a guy w/ little seller experience.

Thanks in Advance.

Contact the police, Apple, and/or eBay.

The serial number might be registered with Apple, and if it is stolen, the police should be able to track down the original owner to find out.

Depending on how your Aunt payed for the book, she might be able to recover what she paid for it. Good luck.
