Can I Stop My External Drives Moving Around on the Desktop?

I love Tiger, and I generally don't have any real issues with Finder either, except that when I have multiple external drives mounted, they rearrange themselves seemingly at random every time I (infrequently) restart my machine. It's not a major issue, but it's slightly irritating, and I would like to stick them in one place and make them stay there.
Any ideas on how to stop this happening? In case it makes any difference, I have my desktop View Options set to "Snap to grid".

Instead of "snap to grid" how bout keep arranged by kind ? your external drives should line up right under your main hard drive. Give it a try and see if it produces the results you seek.

If you upgrade to Leopard, you can drag the drives wherever you want them, and the Finder will remember their positions.

Unfortunately, that reorganises my whole desktop, which is rather irritating. I suspect I'll just have to learn to live with it...

At least there's that. I'll have to wait until I upgrade to Leopard then...

Drag the icon holding down CMD (or ) and then release it, it will snap to the grid.
