When PowerBook sleeps, what stays on?

I just noticed today when I happened to rest my hand on top of my sleeping PowerBook that there's some kind of motion still going on, as if something is still spinning or otherwise vibrating slightly inside. So, does anyone know what stays awake whilst the PowerBook sleeps?

Spinning and vibration would be the harddrive... perhaps it was going into Safe Sleep.

The fans in my 12" PB sometimes stay on for a while after first going to sleep. But that stops after 10 or 20 seconds.
If this happens after the PB has been asleep for a while, are you sure it's a vibrating noise? I suppose there could be some hissing capacitors in there....

Not a vibrating noise...just a "feel-able" vibration that's ever so slight.

In sleep, only the RAM is powered. The hard drive would be powered until the safe sleep process completed. You don't mention how long this vibration goes on or if it eventually stops.

It does not stop...it is constant during sleep. The sleep light is snoring. I can hear the HD park as well after a few seconds, so I don't think it's the HD. Although, I'm really not sure what it could be, unless there's a fan or something that's not turning off.

For the record, I've noticed this as well. PowerBook G4 aluminum. It sounds like a fan running very very lightly, but it's nothing nearly as loud as when the fan (leaf blower) comes on when it gets too hot. My machine doesn't have safe-sleep, either.
