A friend is asking my advice on whether to get a Firewire 400 drive, or a Firewire 800/USB2.0 drive. He'll only be putting MP3's on it, but will need to use it on a variety of computers, both Mac and Windows. The FW 800 drives are about $100 more, but it seems more Peecee's come with USB2.0 than Firewire these days.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks,
-Scott

If you are only using it for MP3's and a few other non-speed related things, get a firewire400/USB2 case. It will work with PC's and Macs, and since speed is not an issue, it will save you money. FW800 is nice and all, but Mp3's don't need the speed. I think even a USB 1.1 drive could play an MP3 fine.

I'd recommend the Lacie PocketDrive which is Firewire 400/USB2. It's a great drive, portable, rugged, reliable, looks good.

I'd second the Lacie Pocketdrive - we've a bunch of the 20Gb models here at work and have only ever managed to break one of them! FW400 is plenty fast enough for MP3s or whatnot.
We now use the busted Pocketdrive casing for getting data off laptop hard drives - works a charm!
