Not only in Austria, the Krampus also comes to parts of Bavaria, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, Italy and Kroatia. I have vivid childhood memories of that
Btw, Krampus accompanies St. Nikolaus, who is NOT the equivalent to Santa Claus.
Santa Claus' equivalent in many parts of Europe is the Christkind, a.k.a as the Geflügelte Jahresendfigur

Sh*t I thought for a moment another Austrian had locked his kids in a cellar for a few years.
Glad to see that that isn't the case.

It works fine when you have the correct number of quote closing tags.

Where in Germany did you come from?
In Greece it's St. Basil (Aghios Vasilis) who brings the gifts to children. Thanks to America, he now looks exactly like Santa Claus.
