Saw a sneak peak last night and it has me reeling.

You've never seen anything like this, words like "powerful" and "jaw-dropping" come to mind yet barely scratch the surface. If Deadpool ushered in the adult hero genre, Logan has unequivocally defined it. It's a masterpiece, not only as a "comic book movie" but as a film in general. The first I've ever seen that deserves Best Picture consideration, and if Jackman isn't at least nominated for Best Actor it's a crime. See this.

Apparently he's now saying it might not be his last.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Does anyone know if this is based on the comic series, Old Man Logan?

I've yet to read it, but I've been told it's fantastic.

Really looking forward to seeing this film. The positive reviews will probably even put it into the "must see in the theater" category for me as well.

Well the last two solo wolverine movies were garbage, but I'm intrigued. I'll still wait for some more reviews though.

Eh... maybe 40%? Enough to pay fan service while still being pretty unique.

It's great.....another adult superhero movie that well deserves the adults-only rating.

Saw (1/2) of the trailer. BORING!

Saw the actual movie. Super great! That girl was insane. So acrobatic with adamantium claws in her hands and feet. Wow.

Love all of the killings also.

edit: I think I've only seen 1-2 of the other X-Men movies, and have been greatly disappointed with them, so was a bit hesitant seeing Logan, but glad that I did.

Saw it this weekend, it's good stuff. There are a lot of comparisons in reviews to western films like Unforgiven, and in a good way, not in a "it's a st rip off of..." way. Definitely deserves the age rating it's got as an R (it's a 15 here, and its closer to an 18 rating than a 12).

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Saw it, some really compelling and fairly innovative themes. For example, the brutality of animal killings, the toll killing anything in abundance takes, the toll of being virtually invincible has on being close to people that pass on, powers + paternity, etc.

Just saw a ridiculously early matinee.

It was very good. Good enough I'd go all nitpicky about it.

Less nitpicky... the third act was kinda weak in comparison to the first two, though. I felt they started to contrive scenarios.

X-Men universe question... how much extra mass does the adamantium skeleton give someone?

Also, saw the GitS trailer.

I thought ScarJo would be wrong, and she very much is. If it's going to be white woman they should have gotten Charlize.

There was one bit where I didn't mind the idea of ScarJo playing the lead... aaaaaand it looks like they took that part out.

Adamantium is 1,000,000X the strength of steel at 10x the weight.

Agreed on the third act.....movie also felt about 10-15 mins too long but yeah, being nitpicky

At such a high strength ratio (and it's in short supply) the skeletal coating might be little more than a film. Adding negligible mass.

Huh? It's typically described in the rather nebulous term of "indestructible". Do you have an actual source for something so specific?

Well, using the 10x figure, and assuming full skeletal replacement...

Are you sure about the skeletal replacement? I thought they just coated his bones, including the hand spines.

I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt.

The physics is off in either case, but if it weighs only an extra 10 or 20 pounds the physics is way off.

I really like it when these things get thought through. One of my favorite bits of Ghost in the Shell is them doing that.

It's "laced" throughout his bones and coats them with a layer that's only a few molecules thick, because no more is necessary, given its incredible tensile strength. The lacing and claws makeup the bulk of the weight though, at >47kg of his overall 136kg mass. Incidentally, after he lost this adamantium in the comics he was down to 88kg and could jump and perform other athletic feats as never before, though it made his physical attacks much less impactful (while he had the stuff, all that extra weight in his forearms made getting punched by him about the same as being pummeled by Bo Jackson w/ a baseball bat).

So, I'm thinking a pint-sized set would probably weigh 30-40 pounds.

In the X-23 comics it's 61lbs worth of class-2 adamantium.

Did they ever address how the whole growth thing works? Can her bones get bigger?

As it was explained in her story, the bone grows around the webbing and it's designed to expand with her, but IMO that's pretty far-fetched, even for comics. Later on they retconned and said she'd simply stopped growing at 14.

Ugh, retcon. Does help with the growing up issue, though. But opens a whole new problem with them being torn off.

Prob'ly getting a bit bogged down here? I mean, X-Men, flying, fighty fight, indestructible, back from the dead (again), psychic powers, etc, etc.

The brutality of how wolverines kill things kind of reminded me of that bear scene from the Revenant.

Interestingly, I dug the violence in this movie, but have almost zero desire to see The Revenant, and it's because of the violence.

Friend's review: Brutal. Not a good date movie. She and her SO did not enjoy. Which bums me out, as they both are discerning fans of marvel, scifi, etc.

Well, the main character has cutlery for fists and punches a bunch of people in the face.

They deserve it, if that helps.

I believe violence was not unexpected. Again, they are familiar with the character, the universe, the comics, the movies, etc.

This sounds like it may have been part of the problem. Wolverine is a turbo adults only idea which gets sanitized most of the time.

Finally saw it. Yes, it did remind me of True Grit. The girl was feral though. Seeing old Prof X was tear-worthy. When will these people learn not to hole up with kindly farmer types? They just get killed, you idiots.

Violence-wise, yep, there were a lot more claws to the face than in the other xmen/wolverine's (just watched a bunch of them again w kids). Not sure all the gore was needed, no matter how well done... I think I agree with my friend's "brutal." However, I was not disappointed in the story at all. Glad we saw it. Fighting younger clone/son was scary. Felt bad for old Logan and his aching adamantium bones. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart take it beyond comic book characters.

Was confused on timelines though... haven't rewatched Apocalypse lately, but don't recall ending.. Is this supposed to be same universe/timeline?

Not sure timelines matter anymore, at least to Fox.

I haven't seen it yet, but if I understand the timelines right, there is at least one movie between Apocalypse and Logan, namely Sansa Stark goes Dark Phoenix and we promise we won't screw it up again. That can still wreck the world and everyone we know pretty thoroughly.
