Hi all,

Just picked up a 500mhz G3 iBook knowing it had issues. It turns on with the chime, goes to the gray apple and spinning gear screen (takes a long time) then I get the circle with the slash. This is what I've tried so far...

Single User Mode
Verbose Mode
Safe Mode
Boot from Jaguar
Boot from Panther
Boot from Apple Diagnostics CD
Reset PMU
Reset PRAM/NVRAM
Hold down Option key with Jaguar in, I get the screen that lets me select startup drive, the hard drive appears, but won't boot, however, the CD does NOT appear.

Any thoughts??

Does the CD drive make noise like it is working? If the OS on the HD is dead and the CD drive is broken, that would explain everything so far. At this point I would pull the HD and stick it in an external inclosure and try to install the OS on it through another computer.
