So he wants to still play?

I say make him a Bear. He won't command Favre-in-his-prime dollars anyway so why not add him to our rotation. He can't be a bigger gamble at this point than anyone else we have playing QB and it will piss off the whole state of Wisconsin. Sounds like a win either way.

Except the Packers aren't going to let him go a divisional rival. And Minnesota would be a more logical choice for him anyways.

That said. Why in the hell did he retire in the first place instead of taking the summer off. He retires, he plays, he retires, etc. Prima donna.

Don't make him a Bear. The Bears need to rebuild. Spending big money on an aging quarterback means less money available for young up-and-comers.

Besides, Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman have the potential to become great quarterbacks. (It's true, Rex could be great if he learned to think before throwing.)

I could see him going to Atlanta again to run things until Matt Ryan is ready. It shouldn't last the 3-4 years or so that Rodgers' apprenticeship has.

I was one of those people who actually believed when he said he wanted to retire, that he'd stay retired.

Now its getting to a said situation, I read last night he sent a litter to the packers asking for his release so he sign on with another team.

No way he'd join the Bears even if they went after him and the Packers allowed it (which they wouldn't). Word is he was mad at the Packers for not going after Randy Moss. Who would he throw to on the Bears? No one will be open all year. Devin Hester is exciting, but he's not a world-class NFL receiver.

The old guy needs to just give up pro football. He should start some charity stuff where he'd be able to play and be around football, that might keep him occupied.

I've got to disagree on that one. Don't you remember that he led the Packers to the NFC Championship game last year? How does that indicate he's too old to play?

As for me, I'm just hoping Jake Delhomme is healthy this year.

Yet another gifted athlete unwilling to accept fate and retire with grace and dignity. If he does play it will be at a level that would in all likelihood be an embarrassment as it always seems to be the case when this guys try to do one more season.

I don't think that is fair, considering how he played last season. Had he had an average season and was using his former glory to squeeze out another season that way I'd agree with you, but he led his team to the conference finals and damn well almost won the NYG's.

Sure he's old, but age aside he was one of the three best quarterbacks in the entire NFL! It was his wish to retire, not his fate.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

He can play but it's the head games he's played for years. Do I retire? I'm retired. No, maybe not. I'll play again. Feel sorry for the Packers fans having to deal with this. Whatever happens, someone will get the short end of the stick.

Fair or not, the fact remains, he, like many other superstars fail to recognize that its time to hang it up. If he does return next year, I'm 99% it will not be at the level he played at last year.

I think Favre is being an idiot and ought to hang it up. With that said, if he persists in trying to come back I hope he signs with the Bills. The team isn't going anywhere for a few years, so the press attention from having him along may help the Bills sell tickets and keep them from defecting to Toronto. (They're already playing a game a year there, starting this year....) Plus, he's already used to the weather!

Looks like he wanted to go to Minnesota and the packers have filed a tampering charge on them as well. I
msnbc

This kind fills the puzzle in a little more.

After reading his interviews and threats to show up to the packers camp, he seems to be acting like a spoiled brat who hasn't gotten his way so he's going to try to make everyone miserable.

The Packers are accusing Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, a close friend and former Green Bay assistant, of having inappropriate dialogue with Favre.

My opinion on Brett Favre and how it has changed :

Brett Favre (2007): Talented, unorthodox, fun-loving, great teamate and deserved HOF future member.

Brett Favre (2008): Arrogant, childish, selfish, idiotic and a manipulator.

Favre made a decision to retire. He should understand that after you do that the team has to tell the troops to move on. The team has to get psyched about Rodgers and make a emotional leap for him. Favre may or may not be pushed into it but as a grown, HOF man... he made that final call. Packers are not to blame in that situation.

The Packers are IMO smart in that they are choosing the future over the past in this situation because Favre has commitment issues for years. What about the next 2 years... does favre have the right to hold the team hostage? They drafted Rodgers with a valuable no.1 pick and it would be justified as he was fulfilling a backup role if Favre doesn't retire. Rodgers was drafted in the first place probably because Favre was making noise about retiring up to 3 years ago!

Favre is a jerk-face at this point and he infuriates me with his wishy washy bullshyt. He needs to man up.

I don't think he'll be playing for the Packers, if he ends up playing at all this year. They're offering him $20 million to stay retired. If they're that desperate for him to not play, I can't imagine they'd just welcome him back onto the team in the starting QB position.

Apparently there's a chance he might come to Minnesota. That'd be nice, we'd actually have a good quarterback for once!

Why not just let him play for another team? Clearly that's what he wants and it would save the packers some money.

This is correct, as our version of football requires people to take it and come back for more when hit, not flail and fall down and whine like a little girl hoping for some sort of sympathy from the umpire.

I'd love to see Favre in Atlanta - he technically started his career here - but I am a bit wary b/c his is playing the prima donna stick a bit much with the Packers currently.

Can't recall where I read it, but some pundit was saying that a lot of this situation is a result of the ownership system in GB. And I'm sure part of it is that the GB organization doesn't want to be seen as capitulating to the demands of a player, even one the caliber of Favre. It sets a bad precedent for negotiations with other players, I'd imagine.

Still, I imagine he'll be playing somewhere else relatively soon.

Now he's thinking about taking a cash payoff to stay retired.

He's such a prima donna. Favre should say this:

- I'll play for any team I'm traded to for 2 years and compete for the job in Spring Training. (because teams don't even want to talk trade because it's so disruptive to the current team and everyone knows his commitment issues)

- If you release me, I won't sign with anybody in the same division as GB.

I don't think he's been a prima donna for most of his career, but I wouldn't doubt that after all those retrospectives about his career after his retirement announcement, it started feeding his ego and this whole situation was a result of him having a 'I'm Keith Hernandez' moment.

Overreact much? He wants to play and doing what he has to do to make it happen.

Can't say I agree with him, but he still feels the need.
