Yes and no.

Yes, it will accept 8GB and see it, but it will only use op to 4 GB. So basically, no.

Actually, it will use and see all 8, but they become very unstable.

So the answer is still basically no.

Yeah, lots of misinformation here. The sticky thread has the details.

Basically you can install 4, 6, or 8 GB of RAM and all the RAM will always be recognized (and addressed). The real issue is that while 6 GB RAM can be fully used, 8 GB configurations appear to be unstable. If you want to play it safe (for the time being until a firmware update changes anything) you will want to get only one 4 GB DIMM and pair it up with a 2 GB DIMM.

Simon is right. 6 GB configurations have been tested and they run very stable. Initially, 8 GB configurations have proven to be unstable. Perhaps this has changed since the introduction of the 17" ProBook which officially supports 8 GB RAM.

Anyone know if a 6GB configuration for sure works in a Unibody MacBook as well? I know they use the same chipset, but just curious if someone has tried it or knows of a review trying it.

Yes, 6 GB works for sure in a unibody MacBook.

OWC for example specifically sells such a kit for the UB MB.

They also sell a 6 GB kit for pre-UB MacBooks and MBPs (Penryn models).

That's the one I have, and it works perfect.
