So right away, fuck trump and his army of retards who never got educated or left their hometowns.

That said... I live in a very red area, and proudly had my Biden sign up in a SEA of trump signs, but I've noticed a lot of the trump signs have been slowly starting to be replaced with "Fuck Biden" signs, and I'm like... yeah that's fair, I'm on board with that. I cannot stand the guy. He is the reason Student Loans are not able to be cancelled due to bankruptcy, and I know so many people struggling with high student loans, scraping along the edge of poverty, or being in for real poverty. It's fucked.

Now this asshole has the ability to cancel student loans, but nope, got an email a few days ago that my student loans will be starting back up in January because fuck you. The pandemic is currently WORSE than a year ago, but yeah fuck the stimmie package that gave my GF a shred of income. She's extremely high risk so hasn't been working in a year, so even a bleeding heart vote blue no matter who type person is fucking pissed off at him.

Anyway, saw this yesterday:

https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreak...lobal_climate/

Jesus. Christ. Climate change is, objectively, a much larger issue than student debt, but he can't even be bothered to stay awake. We all know he'll do jack shit, because the DNC/Blue team are just a bunch of corporate stooges that do whatever their corporate masters tell them to do that doesn't impact profits (ITS TIME TO OPEN BACK UP! NEVERMIND THE COVID, PEASANTS!). But they they wrapped themselves in a rainbow flag to prove how woke and progressive they are, so let's talk about that LBGT stuff all the time despite LBGT being only 3% of the population, who cares about the working class, who cares about the future of this planet.

Let's go Brandon.

The people saying Let's Go Brandon think Biden stole the election, and/or are mad about masks and vax mandates, so let's not let dissatisfaction with politics get confused with being like THOSE people. This started because a newscaster was reporting on a sports event, the crowd was chanting "Fuck Biden" and she covered by saying they were instead rooting for sports guy Brandon. Now even Southwest air pilots are saying it, they are enjoying this code phrase.

Like Obama, Biden is being stonewalled by Republicans and 2 "moderate" "democrats" so things aren't getting done. Dems are being too cautious about getting rid of the filibuster, and Turtle McConnell is chortling all the way to the bank as the Infrastructure bill, the voting bills, etc are blocked by not enough majority and republicans toeing the Trump line. I don't say party line because Republican doesn't mean what it used to mean.

Do we blame Biden or the system? The Republicans who've abandoned their ideals? McConnell? Q?

Wait...you're 40 years old and have like 10 cars, and a boat, lots of toys, and...student loans?

Getting people to focus on an evil figurehead is a very effective opposition tactic. People were furious about what Trump was doing, but no one was out protesting what McConnell and the rest of congress was accomplishing while Trump ran interference on Twitter. Getting all mad about a public figureheads lets people forget about the rotten system that allowed that person to flourish just like it's going go let someone else pop up next cycle.

idk how many cars I have but they're all sub 5k shitboxes. That isn't the point. I graduated with 60k of student loans in 2010. I paid 50k back. I still owe 38k. I went to school to better myself, contribute more to the economy, and now pay far more in taxes than if I had remained uneducated, fuck me, right? Better make sure those student loans are unforgivable and at an interest rate far higher than a used car or mortgage.

You agreed to all of that like 15 years ago. What does any of that have to do with Biden? Why is any of that his fault?

He is the reason why student debt is unforgivable. I'm lucky enough to be pretty successful. Many of my peers were not. We all graduated into the worst recession since the 1930s and there were no jobs. They're fucked paying $600+ a month without the high income to support it.

Biden is milquetoast. Middle of the road. Centrists are a larger barrier to progress than the GOP.

I don't follow the news, so I guess I'm out of the loop. Did congress unwaveringly vote to cancel student debt but then Biden blasted through the wall in a '67 Corvette with a big ol' veto stamp the size of a pizza and smash the shit out of that bill?

It's not in the loop. Student debt was able to be cancelled through bankruptcy until 2005, at which point Biden pushed a huge bill that made it impossible to get rid of the debt to please his corporate banking overlords.

He then campaigned on tackling the student loan crisis, and is doing jack shit. AOC has been blasting him in the ass about having the ability to cancel student debt and doing literally nothing. I know so many people who are so fucked by student debt, they'll likely never own property, or even start a family, it's sickening. Doing literally nothing is how we wind up with another shit stain like Trump. The centrist dems doing nothing are the biggest allies to republicans, as they prevent any meaningful change.

Oh, and one other thing, most student debt cannot be refinanced at a lower rate. It's just locked into whatever forever, unless you go to a variable interest rate, which... could change to whatever at any time.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...-2005-act-2020

"t is indisputable that Biden was an avid supporter of the 2005 bill as a whole and of its overall thrust of tightening up the bankruptcy code largely to the benefit of lenders at the expense of distressed families who would find it harder to file for bankruptcy.

“Biden was one of the most powerful people who could have said no, who could have changed this. Instead he used his leadership role to limit the ability of other Democrats who had concerns and who wanted the bill softened,” said Melissa Jacoby, a law professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill specialising in bankruptcy.

Other leading Democrats and consumer advocates did say no. In the Senate debate on the 2005 bill, Ted Kennedy was scathing about its implications.

“This legislation breaks the bond that unites America, it sacrifices Americans to the rampant greed of the credit card industry,” he said. Kennedy warned that even before the new provision kicked in young people were dropping out of college “because of the costs of student loans – they can’t pay them”.

Warren warned of bill’s impact on women
When an earlier version of the bill was in front of Congress, a respected law professor at Harvard law school was so incensed by its terms that in 2002 she wrote an entire paper decrying Biden’s forceful support of it. The author – Elizabeth Warren – said the changes would be to the detriment of one group above all others: women.

“Senator Biden supports legislation that will fall hardest on women,” she wrote. “Why? The answer will have to come from him … He is a zealous advocate on behalf of one of his biggest contributors – the financial services industry.”"

Rob gets points here for the historical reference and the Warren quote... but today's Biden would probably have a bone to pick with 2005 Biden. For one, he's more beholden to Warren, AOC, Bernie, etc, to uphold these things, and knows they are politically popular.

However someone find a way for Dems to get shit done without conceding the farm to the Republicans.

Winning more elections is a viable strategy, but these are Democrats we’re talking about.

P.S. Republicans controlled Congress in 2005.

And thats why Democrats don't win enough elections. Republicans do shit and somehow the Dems always get blamed.
A FB friend and his friendship group are mad at Biden. Their imbecilic solution is for the "Real Progressives" to split off from the Dems as if that will help anything.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

To be fair, 2004 was a referendum on the war, and the Republicans held. In 2006 they got pummeled, and in 2008 they got triple-pummeled.

It is the point. You’re like the poster child of a terrible class action representative. Whining about some legitimate injustice when your own actions are the primary if not sole reason you’re in this position.

I hate to be the person to seem as though I’m in favour of America’s dumb education and financial system here—I’m not. Like the rest of your destructive spiralling society it disadvantages anyone who doesn’t already have money and then severely penalizes that person if they catch a bad break.

But there’s a 1000% chance you could have paid off your entire loan if you hadn’t been compulsively wasting your money on every semi-cool toy that crossed your path for the past 15 years. This isn’t the system’s fault. This is your fucking fault, and now you’re just blaming the system.

You know what you could have done? Kept that lame Neon and put no money into it, lived frugally for five years on your own admittance of having a decent job, and been debt-free years ago. But no, you just had to buy and restore a cool assed boat and a classic shitbox or eight while that 60k hung over your head.

Sounds like you’re just terrible with money. Welcome to personal responsibility, friendo.

What part of "I'm doing fine but I care about those less fortunate than me" did you not fucking comprehend?

I make really good money and I have no car payments. I could sell my TSLA and crypto and pay off my student loans tomorrow if I wanted to, and still have cash left over. You keep focusing on me because you can't think of a rational response to any of the points I brought up.

If you'd paid it off sooner there would have been 30k extra to spend on charity and shitboxes, is all.

No one should have to pay usurious rates for student loans. in the 90s I was lucky enough to get a Stafford/Perkins low rate loan but not sure if they still exist. My kid will have student loans but I have no idea what the rate on them is, the school doles it out and controls all that, and my name isn't on the bills (even if I'm paying them).

Also, I've heard that since the Infrastructure Bill passed, dems are getting #ThankyouBrandon trending, so there's that. Was it everything we hoped? No, but it's moving forward and more plans to Build Back Better (progressives have moderates on the books saying they will vote for it in return for infrastructure).

It isn't about me, and was never about me.

I am doing fine. The subject is the rest of my peers and caring for those less fortunate than themselves. It's fucking crazy how many people are incapable of this.

Yep, Stafford loans still exist.
