Are there sufficient hooks provided in Safari to add toolbars and other extensions?

I am aware of SIMBL (as used by PithHelmet) as an extension but it seems like a hack (which would explain the peformance hit noticed in earlier versions). At what level does SIMBL work? I would assume given it's installation location that it's an InputManager extension. Does this mean it parses all the HTML data as provided by WebKit and extracts URLs?

Anybody on this forum doing similar things?

There are no plug-in hooks provided by Safari. That's why people use the systemwide input manager interface to hack it.

Thanks for the confirmation. I will have to investigate input manager extensions further. My goal is to implement more extensions in Safari like Firefox does but this just may not be possible.

Have you considered joining the Camino development team?

I am not a Camino user so I have never given it any thought. I thought I'd develop for Safari since it'd appeal to the widest audience.
