hi, guys
Is it ok for a computer system, say a G3/G4, to have a 15 C (59 F) system temperature? Gauge PRO and Thermograph shows that my system temperature ranges from 11 C - 31 C (51.8 F - 66.2 F).
I've heard from some people that temperatures below 25 C (77 F)causes condensation. Is this bad for my system?

A lot of talk on XLR8 where people are generally on the too hot end and looking to cool it down. Cold is good. My bw/g3 350/175/1MB usually ran around 21-22 and the G3/466 runs 22-32 C. Still well below what oc and pushing it can cause.

11 to 31 C is 52 - 88 F. You won't get below ambient unless you use active cooling, ie a peltier or something like that. Fans and heatsinks will NEVER take the temp below ambient. Thermodynamically impossible.
That said, colder IS better. Keep in mind, the thermocouple, or more likely a thermistor on the G3/G4 die is NOT calibrated for accuracy. It is a good relative indicator tho. "Geez, this thing is sure hotter today than it was yesterday" My 8500 G3/454(oc'd 400) says 39C and my G4MP-500 says 16C(using Gauge Pro), even tho both heatsinks "feel" about the same temp to my finger.
Worry about condensation if you live in Houston or Charleston and use a refrigeration unit or peltiers to cool your machine, otherwise, don't worry at all.

Most of the temperature readings I get from programs go below ambient and I don't bother keeping them on my comp. if I see that. The only one that seemed to give me reasonable values is the G3/G4 Cache Profiler that you can get here. http://www.powerlogix.com/support/g3cpman/g3cpman.html
You can speed up your cache while you're at it. Read the Readme file first though.

I see. So those temperatures being reported aren't actually accurate. I should've realized that in the first place, but then I thought that it may be suggesting something. Oh, room temperature is actually in those ranges, since I'm at a really cold environment (air conditioned) all the time.
