Samsung is continuing to produce devices under its Nook agreement with Barnes & Noble, by launching its second
co-branded tablet in time for the holidays. The
Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1 follows the same pattern as laid out by the
Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, in using effectively the same hardware as the standard
Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, but combined with Nook software.
The Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1 has a 10.1-inch 1280x800 display, backed by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB of expandable storage. On the front and back are 3-megapixel and 1.3-megapixel cameras respectively, while the tablet also includes Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 6,800mAh battery.
While it can still access Google Play and perform other typical Android tablet tasks, the key point of the tablet is its Nook functionality. Able to access the 3 million-book catalog and Nook Newsstand for digital magazines, the book retailer has also included a collection of "uniquely curated" apps, Nook Video purchasing and rentals, and will ship with more than $200 of free Nook content, including TV show episodes, four bestselling eBooks, and magazine subscriptions.
Barnes & Noble is selling the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 10.1 now for $300, after a $50 rebate.
