It's been said that creating music is one of the finer joys in life. However, not everyone has the chance to invest in an instrument, or lessons, or spend the time practicing. Because of this, a large portion of the population is left to only wonder what it would be like if they were to create their own music. That's why we took a look at Musyc Pro, a strangely simple app aimed at the casual musician.

Musyc Pro is a phenomenal app for those who are interested in creating their own music with little to no experience. Not only does it give users the tools to actually create their own music, it gives them the opportunity to have an interactive experience that is as enjoyable to the eye as it is to the ear.
To make music with Musyc Pro, users simply follow the tutorial at the beginning, which takes the time to walk them through the dozens of functions they can perform. Drawing a line gives the user an "instrument," while dropping shapes act as the tool with which to play it. When a circle, square, or triangle strike the line, they play a specific note, based on the position of the line.
Users can also create portals that generate shapes at a set pace, allowing them to build up a wonderful rhythm section for their songs. There are a few different soundkits that users can take advantage of, giving their music all kinds of wonderful digital sounds. Our personal favorite was the "arcades" soundkit, which created music with a delightfully chiptunes-esque feel.
We feel that Musyc Pro is an enjoyable app to play with from the moment it's picked up, and once we got the hang of it, we found that it wasn't terribly hard to create a song that sounded downright good. The app is well designed, and while it may feel overwhelming at first, it's not too difficult to figure out. We thought the tutorials were clearly written, and really helped to make Musyc Pro approachable.
We passed Musyc Pro around to a few people, and were pleased to see that everyone was able to create their own music within 10 minutes, which we think makes this app a real winner. If you're a budding musician, or you've always been curious to try your hand at creating your own tunes, Musyc Pro is designed for both the iPad and the iPhone, and costs $4.
Who would benefit from Musyc: Musicians, new and old alike. If you're a big fan of the electronic or electronica genre, this is a great tool for you to create your own songs. Who wouldn't get much out of Musyc: If you never felt the itch to create your own music, or if you're opposed to digitally-based music, this probably is an app you can pass up. -- Amber Neely (@SurferAmber)
