Evad3rs -- the team behind the evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 7 -- has issued a second open letter, admitting that it "dropped the ball" on investigating whether Taig's app store contained pirated content. The evad3rs team recently acknowledged benefiting financially from its work. Around the same time the team severed ties, pulling Taig's store from evasi0n completely. In the new letter, evad3rs states that "after investigation and after notification from the community," it found examples of piracy such as "pirated tweaks, Apple App Store apps, and even pod2g's PodDJ app."

"We dropped the ball on this," the letter continues. "While we at first did not believe Taig purposefully violated our agreement, the depth of the transgression against the software developers and the jailbreak community cannot be overlooked and we could not move forward after that even if it were fixed. We terminated our relationship with them. We are very disappointed that they have decided to put up a cracked version of the jailbreak on their site that installs Taig. We did not give them any permission or source code."

evad3rs now denies being paid to include Taig with the iOS 7 version of evasi0n. "We have received no money from any group, including Taig," the letter claims. "Our donations are being given to Public Knowledge, Electronic Frontier Foundation and Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure to help protect jailbreaking as your legal right." The group adds that Taig didn't obtain any user data, and that a person had to have their system language set to Chinese to even see the store.

New downloads of evasi0n have been stripped of both Taig and Cydia, the latter being the most common distribution platform for apps designed for jailbroken devices. evad3rs notes that it's "working hard to fix the problems with the jailbreak."

So all that hard work done by evasi0n did not receive a penny from Taig and on top of that Taig is making money off the source code that evasiOn had done. I mean to accept a-million-dollar pay job from a company that sells pirated apps is like accepting a job from a drug cartel and then tell them not to sell drug to a minor. Yeah. OK. This is like a cheater is working for another cheater. I mean how can anyone be trusted?

Because everyone knows that the only reason to jailbreak your phone is to pirate software. There are NO legitimate reasons to jailbreak your hardware. Apple is the sole arbiter of what you can and can't do with your phone and if you don't like it you can use a different phone.
