Okay, I am installing a new optical drive and new hard drive in my new baby and I need an iBook expert to step up to the plate. I have been able to almost remove the bottom cover according to the instructions of others, but no one has said how to get the bottom cover off of the slot for the slot loaded optical drive. The thing is clinging on there like stink on poop and I don't want to break it. How does it come off--more pulling, more screws, what?

Help me, I want to get this done. TIA!

Look here. It should help. But I would be very careful if I were you. You are going to void the wanranty. (This link is for the original Dual USB iBook, but they are pretty similar with the iBook G4).

The disassembly guide for the iBook G4 is here.

Guides for other Macs can be found here.

Thanks to all who responded. I finally got it off. Getting that shell from around the slot is a royal b****!
