Saw this article, checked my stats and realized I had the drive too. Very cool. My G5 arrived about two weeks ago for those interested.

Wow, Apple doing more than expected: Schweet.

I guess the 107 became cheaper than the 106 when it went into mass production.

It is twice as fast as the 106. 8x vs 4x.

So we're about to order another dual 1.8, how can I best insure we get one of these 107-equipped g5's?

I doubt you can unless you go to a retailer and check it out before you buy. Even then the retailer might not have one in stock. If you order online, phone or mail-order you get what you get. No-one is going to guarantee you a G5 with a Pionner 107 Superdrive since the G5 could come with a 106, 107 or a Sony Superdrive.

FYI!
We got at our school today some Custum Built e-Macs and G5 machines. They all had The Pioneer 107D drive in them even the e-mac.

The new eMacs are advertised with the new 8x SuperDrive. In fact, (as far as I know) they are the only Macs Apple advertises as coming with the faster SuperDrive, oddly...

If you really want the DVR-107D, don't just hope you get a PowerMac with one... you don't even have to bother waiting for an update to the line. Just equip it with a Combo drive to save $200, then buy an OEM DVR-107D from NewEgg for $100. Then sell the Combo drive for $60. Bam, guaranteed 8x Superdrive for $40 vs. $200 for what'll probably be a 4x one.

"That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!" *wheeze*
