I thought this should go in the PowerMac forum, since a) its not really a peripheral, you -have- to have it. b) needs update to look well with new G5, and c) didn't know where else to put it.

Does any one know if an LCD display is coming out soon? To match the G5 and the iSight? Would look nice.

How isn't this a peripheral?

And I'm sure something is in development. As I hope a new keyboard and mouse are as well (althought that's a peripheral discussion too).

I found the thread above.. I only searched for LCD and aluminum. I should have done a search for display as well.

Well my theory is, you have to have a display in order to use the computer at all. You could get away without a mouse (sometimes, but not very much) and other things.

This is one of the things that helped me in my determination, esp. reason #'s 1, 4 & 5.

peripheral

1)Related to, located in, or constituting an outer boundary or periphery.
2)Perceived or perceiving near the outer edges of the retina: peripheral vision.
3)Anatomy.
a)Of the surface or outer part of a body or organ; external.
b)Of, relating to, or being part of the peripheral nervous system.
4)Of minor relevance or importance.
5)Auxiliary.

I do see why you might consider it a peripheral. To each their own.

I can make you one if you want.

Essentially, this one is just an aluminum frame with copper tubing added to match the 'plumbing' theme.

I thought about not using the copper trim because it looked way cool with just the aluminum frame. Color anodizing would have been even better.

PS, people have said this one resembles the shape of a Apple Cinema dislplay. I dunno. must be the legs.

The Cinema Display and the Cinema HD already have a silver fascia.

It is only the 17" LCDs which still have the pinstripes... This could be faded out very easily too.

New displays would be cool, but in reality, the current range fits together well.

However, if new displays do get launched, I personally hope apple will make something like these:

Huh? I am looking at pinstripes right now at both my 20"ers?

and the front of them does not match a G5.

Ooops! Sorry, must be only the 2 largest screens that are alu...

I was hoping to upgrade my 17" to a 20" when my G5 arrives too... Oh, well. My bad.

Peace,

Marc

P.S. 2x20" must be a sweet setup!

The Formac 20" LCD would match the aluminum nicely...

it doesn't have that tacky white border like the apple displays.

Its silver/clear plastic. NO white.

well if you're concerned about the quality of the display then apple displays are out of the question!

SERIOUSLY! I have yet to see an apple LCD that *DOESN'T* have a defect.

Hey there buddy. I didn't say I was rocking an Apple display, though I can't say I agree with you on the QA thing. I have only ever seen 1 or 2 Apple displays that were flawed. Yes there's better stuff out there. I agree with you on that, but in general Apple displays are pretty good.

1 stuck pixel on a total of 6 apple lcd's i've owned. Most from latops, one 15" imac and a 20" incher. The quality is unreal on the new apple 20" nothing else i've ever used even compares. I tried the competition, but I ended up buying apple. The brightness isn't close.

Sure, the Apple displays are decent quality. But for the price you're paying, you could get a better monitor with an extra 2" of screen space!

The brightness isn't close.
Ever used a Samsung LCD? Their super brights are almost too bright, and every time I use one I turn the brightness down to 1/4 of the highest setting.

My iMac 17" has not defects so I must be lucky. My Previous 15" and 12" PowerBooks did not have any either.
