Switch browsers. The problem is Safari specific. Perfect Browser has real, working tabs.

Anyone know of a good app that allows multiple Yahoo! Mail accounts with independent password protection on the iPad 2?

I know of Mailboxes but that's for Gmail.

Just had this happen with only three pages open.

It would be more tolerable if it could put me back to the same point on the page it just reloaded.

I wonder if it makes a big difference how many other apps you have multitasked. If you reboot the iPad, or else if you turn off all the multitasked apps, does the Safari reloading stop?

This does reinforce my belief that 1 GB is probably the sweet spot.

One would hope it pages out other apps as needed.

I was playing with the Smart Cover in the Apple Store. (One of the sales guys had one.)

It is quite unstable with the iPad in near-vertical orientation. Tap it too hard and the iPad will fall backwards. It's good for the near horizontal typing orientation though.

How does it compare to the iPad 1 Apple case ?

It wasn't exactly a rock in the storm in terms the vertical position.

Played with one in PC World today, and I liked it. It's nice to hold now it hasn't got the sharp edge around it, weight seemed ok. I'd take a black one though, the White frame around the screen looked a bit odd to me.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Dunno. Never tried that case.

BTW, surfing is decent, although the higher rez screen would come in handy. However, multiple animated GIFs in a page can bring it to its knees.

Not surprisingly it has the exact same incompatibility with my WiFi access point as my iPhone 4. If I choose WPA2 it will work for a while, and then stop working. WPA2 works fine with my Macs. I changed the WiFi to WPA and now it works fine on both the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2.

The one big thing I hope iOS 5 brings is a multiple user environment, or at least partial support for multiple users in some Apple apps like Mail. I have the iPad up for my GF's email, but I'd prefer to be able to select which user's email to access.

I know this is like beating a dead horse but... about 1 in 4 videos I want to watch on the Internet are still in Flash and it's annoying. It feels like a bigger deal on the iPad since I do way more browsing on it.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I'm typing on my extra Apple Wireless Keyboard right now using the iPad and the aluminum stand I have for it. Works perfectly. The nice thing is that the iPad on-screen keyboard doesn't appear when using the Bluetooth keyboard. (You can make it appear though if you want to, by pressing the Eject key.) I know that is old news for some of you guys, but I've never used a keyboard with the iPad before. Also, it's nice being able to use the audio buttons to control the iPod functionality in the background, and the brightness keys work great.

It's still awkward not being able to use a mouse with it though. The good news is that Shift with the arrow keys also works great for selecting text for copy & paste, which use the usual Command-C and Command-V. Command-A selects all. That avoids having to touch the screen all the time for copy & paste.

The iPad also wakes up when you hit a key on the keyboard.

Having the arrow keys makes navigating long text entry boxes on MacNN easier too.

I would have said the same thing back in say fall 2010, but it's much, much better for me now in 2011 spring. It's amazing what just half a year makes. However, Photobucket is still a significant issue. They do have a dedicated app, but it'd be much nicer if the slideshows and other goodies worked without Flash.

That looks like a pretty neat setup, Eug. I'd rather have a laptop or a desktop with a large display or two for serious word processing, but I can see getting by with the kind of setup you have there. Is this setup something you rely on in doing work, or is it more of a demonstration of concept?

I'm still deciding, wringing my hands over whether to get the 16 or 32... While I have not gotten anywhere near filling my 16GB iPhones (3Gs or 4), I can see having plenty to put on an iPad, like movies, documents, etc. The "What size" thread hasn't been any help on this question either.

If you're planning on using the iPad for any kind of work, get the 32.

I'm glad I got a 1G 32 GB model because although I don't really use it for big media or serious work, I've still managed to fill more than 16 GB. If I had only gotten the 16 I think my experience would have been much more limited. On other hand, for the cost conscious the 16 is a great option.

I use a similar setup for shorter business-trips or for personal trips. (So much easier to go through the airport without taking the laptop out for scanning).

It works fine for business e-mails and composing documents. For heavier lifting I use logmein to control my PC.

No, most likely the iPad 2 will stay at home and I'll either take my MacBook Pro or else my Acer Windows 7 laptop with me on a business trip.

I just had an extra Apple Wireless Keyboard that came with my (replacement) iMac. Extra because I use a wired Apple Keyboard with it.

OTOH, I'd be tempted to buy a ZAGGmate keyboard for it... Angry Birds is that good that it makes me almost want to carry that iPad around.

What I will likely do is get rid of the MacBook Pro when a MacBook Air 11" with Thunderbolt (and preferably backlit keyboard, better battery, and Firewire via Thunderbolt) comes out, and carry that around. The iPad 2 is too limited for productivity.

I'd be interested to see how you'll feel about this - leaving the iPad at home - in a couple of month. I started like you, then found myself gradually using the iPad more and more. Many of my apps of choice use dropbox, which made the switchover really easy.

I usually don't carry my laptop, since I have a desktop at work. When I go out of the city, I often need PowerPoint and Excel, and usually need Word, so I have to take my laptop. iWork doesn't cut it unfortunately.

Interestingly (and sacrilege?), the last couple of times, I left my 13" MacBook Pro at home and took my 11.6" Acer Windows 7 machine because it's smaller and lighter. The 11" MacBook Air would be perfect for me. I just don't like its battery life and its weak hinge.

I would prefer if the Air had Firewire (through Thunderbolt would be fine), although these days it's mainly just because I like Firewire target mode for troubleshooting. It may not really be necessary though since most of the troubleshooting I'd be needing to do is with G4 Macs, and I have a G4 iBook with Firewire anyway.

Going to my mom's place to a visit, I'd take my iPad 2. No need for MS Office. Apple's built-in Office document read support is good enough there.

BTW, most of my Apple geek colleagues who bought the iPad 1 would take theirs with them... AND their laptops. Now I'd say about half of them still take both, but the other half just take their laptops. I don't know anyone who takes just an iPad with them when they go out of the city on a business trip.

I mentioned to my folks at the weekend that I'm thinking of getting an iPad 2, first thing they said was 'no don't, there's an iPad 3 in the autumn'. I'd heard the 2011 iPad 3 stuff too but I'm not sure, with the news around at the moment about iOS 5 and iPhone 5 possibly coming out in September or thereabouts, has that made is less likely that there's an iPad 3 coming then too?

The rumour was that iPad 3 would be out before the end of the year, but if iPhone 5 is getting pushed back to come out with iOS 5 later in the year when the iPods usually get updated then that sounds like a lot of iPod and iOS stuff in one go - iOS5, iPhone 5, iPods and iPad 3 together is surely too much.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

iPad 2 JUST came out and production still can't keep up with demand and you're speculating about iPad 3??

Ipad 3 was THE rumour not so long ago, just about when it became clear that ipad 2 didn't have a retina display .

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

iPad3 Fall 2011 rumors have been out a long time. ajprice is right, retina is the main area of speculation. So far, there is not enough retina display manufacturing capacity to satisfy demand. I somehoe doubt thought his would change in 6 months. Not with what's going on in Japan.

Hmmmm... I'm not expecting a retina display if it comes out in six months but after owning this a few days I already want a retina display, as I look at it from close up more often than I do with an 11" laptop I guess.

BTW, That is giving me a little bit of a headache. I guess my eyes are not used to focusing that close for long periods of time. Maybe I'm just getting old.

PS. In landscape mode I'm finding this metal stand much more stable than the SmartCover. In portrait mode it is somewhat unstable if I tap the iPad in the top corners, but at least the stand works in that mode. The SmartCover doesn't have a portrait stand orientation.

What I've heard is that if they want to (can) go earlier than a year with the next model, they're going to work an "iPad Pro" type angle and still keep the old one in the chain.

Not stable: Portrait orientation if you're tapping on the screen on the top left or top right. The iPad wants to tip off the stand. Perfectly stable if you don't tap the screen though.

Stable: Landscape orientation, even if you're tapping on the screen. Don't tap too hard though as it's possible to push the whole thing back with repetitive hard taps. Hard taps (like playing Angry Birds and trying to precisely time the egg drop) can make the front to back angle in the legs slightly smaller. To put it another way, if you tap the iPad really hard, the legs can close ever so slightly. Do this a whole bunch of times and the legs can close to the extent that the thing becomes unstable. Normal light taps are fine though, even if you tap in the top corners, as the iPad and the stand don't budge.

I got it for $17 shipped off eBay, and it's reasonably well made, as it's solid metal, except for rubber pads on the feet (to grip the table) and where the iPad would contact the stand.
