Hi!

My parents are looking into buying a new TV and I told them they should learn how to download / borrow movies from the internet, as most new TVs now have an internet connection, too. I wonder: Isn't typing with the normal remote very impractical? I've read there are people who use iPhones/iPads for typing which I believe to be very comfortable, but we don't have any.
Is there an alternative? I thought a small wireless keyboard would be best; are there any? What do you use?

I do use one, but it's via my Mac Mini connected to the TV.

Most solutions are kind of kludgy like that (i.e. Google TV, which won't be available in Europe until September). TV manufacturers just started releasing QWERTY keyboard remotes. So it's possible a new TV will have one, but AFAIK, they aren't too widespread yet.

AppleTVs can link with iDevices, and then you can use the iDevice as a keyboard. I believe Samsung makes TVs which can connect in a similar manner.
