I keep finding myself incredibly annoyed by Oprah. There's just something about her...
Is it the smarminess?
The "I am SUCH a great giver" attitude?
The way she acts like she cares about everyone?
The closeted lesbianism (If Stedmund isn't a "skirt," I don't know who is)? C'mon, Oprah! Come on out.
Is it just me? Who else can't stand Oprah?

Just you.
Like any TV celebrity, if I don't like them, I avoid watching their shows. In Oprah's case I have little desire or interest in watching her show so I generally don't get worked up about it.

I don't mind her really. Not that I watch her.
Wish she would give me a car or something, however.

I'd have to be dumb enough to watch her show or pay attention to her to have an actual opinion.
Kudos on the public poll, though.

I try desperately to avoid it, but every female I know seems to love it.
"She's just so REAL!"
Kudos on the public poll, though.
I just did it to see how long it would take you to applaud the fact.

They actually bring her up in conversation?
Admittedly, it's Dr. Phil I despise. And no, the drawl does not help.

Hmmm, you're right. Maybe a Dr. Phil poll would've inspired a greater furor.

She's fine. I don't find her that annoying, and at least she attempts to use her public stage to do some good in the world.
She's not hurting anything. If you don't like her don't watch. My wife watched Oprah, and while I do find her show midly unbearable, she sometimes has interesting topics or guests. I do think she is talented and her heart is in the right place.
Dr. Phil on the other hand... Ugh.
Or actually, Tyra Banks. She is the worst thing to happen to humanity ever. She needs to be euthanized for the greater good. Just put her down.

Tyra is smokin' but her level of self-absorption is so laughable it's practically become its own segment on The Soup.

She was ok until shortly after 9/11 she did a whole "They hate us because of our freedom" thing which made her look like any Fox news channel.

Oprah is sadly and quite literally one of the only sources of broadcast international journalism. I don't watch her show, but support this cause.

I flipped to her show once and she was bragging about how her (yo-yo) dieting had inspired a 12 year old girl to go on a diet. Totally obnoxious.
Promoting that Dr. Phil guy certainly hasn't helped her reputation IMO either.

WTF do you watch? Even reading a page from BBC.co.uk once a week would be more effective. I hope you're being sarcastic.

I'll have to change that. I love Oprah (but not enough to watch her show unless I want to see the guest).

I don't watch the show enough to know what a typical piece is like, but I do know that Lisa Ling works for Oprah as a special correspondent, and she has an impressive resume and is a respected journalist. I heard her speak in a public setting, and she made hte pont that really, aside from National Geograpic, PBS, and The View (all where she used to work), there isn't much out there in the broadcast world.
So, the situation is sad, but until it gets better you have to at least commend Oprah for trying to shed light on these sorts of stories and making people aware of what goes on outside of this country.

Broadcast journalism is like Congressional ethics — it's something people like to talk about, but I don't think it really exists.

Chuckit, Jawbone, I agree, that's why I don't get my news from TV (unless you count the Daily Show and Colbert Report, but I'm usually aware of the stories they report by the time they do so).
However, a lot of people still do get their news that way, so all I'm saying is that Oprah's international news coverage is at least a positive in her favor... If I had to give her another positive, I would say that her charity work is commendable, although that could be said even if she didn't have her own show.

Oh, c'mon. Like I really "hate" her.
Get driven crazy by her? Yep.
Want her to lose her billions and live her remaining years behind a dumpster? Of course not.
But of course, I'm guessing this was a joke.

I don't dislike Oprah at all, I don't watch anything she is on. I work at a bookstore, which she sells a lot of books for us. But anything that shows up on her show brings all the housemoms to our store and they buy whatever she recommends.

I don't hate Oprah. I actually respect her for being able to assemble such a juggernaut of a media empire out of one crappy talk show. I know of no other force on the planet that can suggest an obscure book and overnight send it to the NYTimes bestseller list. That's some kind of power and influence no one else enjoys.
She is however very much out of touch with the rest of the planet. Maybe not in the same way Tom Cruise is but Oprah doesn't really have any idea what the world is like anymore. So I wouldn't ever take anything she has to say seriously (including Obama) and I am puzzled so many women do take her words as gospel.
As for Dr Phil, he needs to be executed. I would have no problem pulling the lever to send him to his death and I'd actually sleep better as a result of it.
On a related tangent, I would really like to screw Rachel Ray.
She is no great beauty but her overhyper personality brings up sexual curiosities over what getting her to go all night would be like. Imagine 12 hours of sexual activity punctuated by 5 star level cuisine and all you'd have to do is lie there.
That brings her from a hard 6 to an easy 9.

I can't watch Oprah for more than a few minutes at a time.
Maybe it's because I keep closing my eyes every few minutes, but I don't hold it against her.
We need a thread on the Opry (the grand ole), so people can hate that too.
