Ok, this is my last attempt at forum help. It seems you need to be part of a clique to get any help on these things, but I'll try 1 more time. I need to know if there is a simple way to convert DTS into flac or anything else that can be played on my mac. I've googled this in so many creative ways and keep getting the geek squad jargon that only a rocket scientist can understand. Anyone?

3rd party players can decode DTS soundtracks. VLC, Mplayer OSX Extended, Movist. QuickTime may be able to play it with the Perian plugin.

Are you trying to play an mkv file with DTS audio? If it's a straight audio file, I'd assume the above players can manage it. As to conversions, if QT can handle it with the Perian plugin, then you can use BitPlayer to save to a different format. Handbrake can do some conversions too.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's possible no one who read your last thread knew the answers.

Just bump your threads if you need a response. It is holidays after all.

Have you tried vlc? I think it can play DTS.

Thank you for the response. I can play the DTS files thru VLC, but they don't sound right. The vocals are way up front and the music is in the background. What I ultimately want to do is burn them to cd/dvd and play them thru my dvd player. I've been trying to use Toast to do this with no luck so far.

I'm not familiar with DTS, but what happens if you just drag-drop the DTS file/folder onto a blank DVD and burn it directly from your Mac?

It will burn to disk just fine, but if you don't have your dvd player set up to playback dts all you will hear is white noise. i'm trying to figure out a way to re-encode it to play normally in either a dvd player or cd player, but no luck so far.

Are you attached to the dts format? I think handbrake will convert DTS to AC3.

Handbrake does not support DTS->AC3 conversion. Handbrake also doesn't support audio only sources.

Well, I dunno about what it supports, but it sure did a fine job of converting a DTS file for me to put on a music dvd. Sounds damned good too.
