Okay, I have taken the plunge and ordered a new iBook 800 G4 with Bluetooth, Extreme, 640kmemory, 40 gig hard drive. It says to be shipped on or before 2/20/04. Is Apple's ship dates to be believed or not?

What kind of bag do I need to carry it in? I'm kinda partial to backpack type bags, but the bag I have now would provide NO protection.

I want it to come now!!

Go therel, click shoulder cases then click the Apple cases. Look at the Mobility1 case. That's the case I use, and it's small and light.

Brenthaven can be quite pricey. I just use a sportfolio 2 sleeve in my backpack, till i got my "downloader" backpack from ebags.com, all together $60 cheaper if you shop around. I put my PB with the sleeve into the laptop compartment and POOF, double the padding and half the price in a sleek look thats really rugged too. Besides with a Brenthaven your just askin for a low life to try to nab it from you. If you want more options try the PB forum and look at the stickies on top its a looked thread that has all types of bags and sleeves and so on.

Just checked Apple's site......darn it. Nothing has shipped yet, course it hasn't even been barely 12 hours yet.

Yeah I think bobcat got it right, most sleeves nowadays are built really well, and do a great job without it having to be in another bag. Just make sure that the inside of any sleeve your thinkin bout getting has soft inners. You dont want your iBook in a 100% nylon sleeve or else it'll scratch, make sure the inside is lined with fleece or other soft materials.

well google pulls up THIS

so far my impression of my ibook is it is a great little product...I can tell the difference between this and my G3 700 16VRAM too...it is a little heavier but the battery life so far is looking like about 5 hours!! don't have much loaded up on it right now and that will have to wait until Monday

I have a Spire "Boot" bag which I am very happy with.

http://spireusa.com/products/BT3.html

They also have a new horizontal version which looks pretty sweet.

http://spireusa.com/products/BH3.html

It's a solid bag with a clean design and it's *cheap*. If you're just looking for a protective sleeve, they have those too for even cheaper.
