Has anyone had a chance to experiment with gaming on the new iMacs? The glossy screen is a killer for me but if its a decent computer I might consider it.

I also noted that the top iMac's price range exceeds that of a Mac Pro. What do you guys think of this? Would it be a better investment to go for a Mac Pro instead of the iMac? Given the Mac Pro will last 5 years at a minimum. You can also change screens and/or graphics, HD's, Disk Drives, RAM etc.

What? The top iMac's price range is nowhere near beating the Mac Pro's price range. A totally tricked out iMac is roughly equal to a midrange Mac Pro with no display.

Mac Pro is a quad... and the thing is.. the iMac's monitor isn't that great for what i've seen. Its of lower quality than the previous iMacs. and the midrange Mac Pro has twice the power of an iMac.

I also already have a display in case I go for a Mac Pro... so just looking for power. Apple doesn't seem to offer a mid-range tower which would really help me a lot.

The thing is, iMacs are dual processors, but with quad core mobile chips coming in a few months... we will probably have octo-core mac pro's but who knows.

We already do have octo-core Mac Pros.

One thing to consider - the Mac Pro is upgrade-friendly, but the iMac is not.

I wouldn't necessarily say twice the power. The Mac Pro configuration I had in mind has a slower clock speed, less RAM, much less storage space and, of course, no display. It could beat the pants off the iMac at extreme multitasking and games, but the point is, the iMac might well be a better value.

Unless you buy apple care for iMac,
I think it can't last for a long time,
Back to the basic, what you can do is only keep changing Ram for iMac,
CPU and Display Card are fixed but you can customize your Mac Pro whatever you want
and games require higher quality now a day,
I think Mac Pro is better for gaming
