Open the App Store. Click on the "My Purchases" tab at the top.

You can download it there.

thanks

I tried that and both 10.10 and 10.11 have been withdrawn ie

they say they are no longer available

why Apple doesnt want one to have these is just odd.

its one thing to make them a little hard to obtain and another almost imposible

thanks fo the suggestion

maybe Ill have to look for a torrent ?

You have to have purchased/downloaded those version from the Apple ID you're logged into the App Store with, otherwise, they won't show up.

In the App Store on my old iMac, under "Purchases", I can download every single version of OS X back to 10.7 Lion. I just checked and tried it.

On the new MacBook Pro, I CANNOT download versions older than Sierra - they do show up, but the App Store informs me that "this version cannot be installed on your computer".

If you used to have 10.10 on your Mac but never purchased it, the Mac must have been delivered with that version originally. In that case you can install the version that the Mac originally came with using the Internet Recovery.

1) Back up everything on your Mac using Time Machine.
2) Reboot your Mac into Internet Recovery by holding Command-Option-R at boot.
3) Using Disk Utility, wipe your boot drive.
4) Go back to the main screen in Internet Recovery and select the option to reinstall the operating system.
5) Reboot. This should open the Migration Assistant which will let you restore your data from the Time Machine backup.

Note: you have to hold Option when rebooting to Internet Recovery. If you only hold Command-R, you get the newest version of the OS.
