Show library folder not working on laptop

I clicked the "show library folder" for the home finder folders on both my desktop and laptop. It does show on the desktop, but strangely, just wont show on the laptop — so I'm stumped. They are both on El Capitan.

In Finder Menu Go... brings up a text entry dialog-- type /Users/yourusername/Library
You can then drag it to the sidebar, at least as a workaround, until you sort out why the preference won't stick.
