This thread is to discuss and recommend food and drinks, and to warn others of possibly bad/nasty/too hot items.
Anyone have a "Half Smoke" before? I think its just a DC area thing, but who knows? Its a little larger than a hot dog, and spicy. I get mine with chili and onions and then add a couple of lines of Sriracha sauce. Better cooked in the hot water than grilled.

To me, panang curry has just the right heat level.

My current love: pork-belly pastrami sliders from a local place called The Piggery.
Runner-up: Hawaiian pork tacos. Still swine oriented, but from a different local place.

Pork is my current favorite meat. My pulled pork BBQ recipe has gone through 7-8 changes over the years. I used to just cut up the meat with a knife old school, but a now gone local place called The Dixie Pig (Alexandria, VA) used to mince theirs, so I put mine through a food processor. The juices and spice mixture used to cook it is reduced down by about 2/3rds and added back into the pile of BBQ, to add flavor and keep it moist. I'm using Pork Tenderloin chunks the size of my fist cooked in a crock pot for 10 hours.

Cast Iron skillet inside. Grill over direct heat outside.

I prefer my pastrami meat to be cold, as in a cold pastrami sandwich.

When I get the quite excellent regular pastrami sandwich from the deli down the street, I go hot on rye with mustard and onions.

Salted pork belly with Japanese pumpkin, garlic, scallions and chili at Fang in San Francisco. Good lord, was that good.

I grew up calling them a hero, and because everyone was Italian there was no "Italian" - just the normal 2 or 3 pounds of meat with either stuffed hot peppers or sweet peppers. Provolone, muenster or mozzarella was an option.
You take a full size loaf of semolina bread, pack it with thinly sliced lean hot capicola (pronounced gabba-gol) and 3 or 4 hot stuffed peppers smooshed on top. If you even suggested mustard or mayo you got slapped.

D'oh! I knew I left out something. HERO. It IS all about the hot peppers. What about "Hoagie Spread'? Pickles? Tomato? Balsamic vinegar?
I think a grinder has hot melted cheese and meats with the rest being cold.

If any of you guys been to Katz's in NYC you know about this, but they once made an incredible pastrami sandwich... pounds of lean but greasy meat with dollops of deli mustard on rye. Haven't been there in years, but back in the day that place was dead animal central. Send a salami to your boy in the army lol

I've seen a bunch of 'hot dog' varieties at Wegmans, but I can't find a source of "Half Smokes" even around DC where they originated.

So, who's hungry? Today at the House cafeteria it's taco salad day. Its an excuse to dump some ElYucateco Salsa Picante de Chile Habanero on the salsa for a little more heat. The food trucks are all the same ol' BS in DC.

I like to bake a Camembert with garlic cloves pushed through the top, a little rosemary as well and a layer of rock salt and back pepper on top that forms a crispy crust.
I bake mine with a tray of chestnut mushrooms to dip into it. Superb.

Favorite snack foods?
I CAN'T have ice cream in my house or it becomes dinner....
Ever eat cereal for a snack, either out of the box or in a bowl with milk?
I did popcorn for a while but that gets old.
Beef jerky is OK, but THAT also would become dinner.
Candy?
Veggies with dip of some sort?
What kind of sandwiches to you make for yourself?
Mayo or miracle whip?
Chilidogs! MMMM!

I can't keep ice cream either... that's a real problem...
favorite combination is vanilla ice cream and peanut butter.
second favorite: Fage plain 0% with raw honey and peanut butter.
third favorite: peanut butter.

Honey over ice cream is WONDERFUL! it turns chewy...mmmmmm. I made some trail mix but ate about 2 cups one evening. Lately I've been eating small shreaded wheat over milk with a little sugar. Back in the day I would have a big glass of chocolate milk (Quik) and some twinkies as dinner, because I usually ate the BIG meal mid-day. I was never into cookies or fruit that much, except dried apricots/plums/apples etc.

**** most ice cream makers for not realizing the innate superiority of this combination.
Did you check out the limited Peanut Butter Pie flavor from Hagen Dazs?
A couple years ago I was given a half dozen pints.
Lasted two days.

Mayo is gross. However I do like egg salad so it's all blended in here. that's the only exception. my wife smothers it on french fries and oknomiyaki (a dreadful Japanese pancake of glop)
Some friends just informed me that Hellmanns and Kraft's are both crap and to try and make it homemade. but then I don't like mayo.

I like Dukes mayo, but I don't do mayo type foods much anyway. Recently I've been trying various Ken's Steak House dressings on sandwiches. Can't beat a BLT with home grown tomato's.

Since I'm ostensibly anti-cream dressing, I'm more of an oil and vinegar dressing for the sammiches.
