John Stewart's real name is 'Jacob Lipshitz' or something.

Mine isn't bad but I feel like a change, a fresh start. How would I choose a new name?

"Jonathan Stewart Leibowitz"
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0829537/bio

So stage name, not a name change.

edit: oopsie "Both he and his wife legally changed their last names to Stewart when they were married."

“Positiveness” is a real word.

Anyway, I like my name (yes, it really is Sage), but I might consider taking up my future wife’s surname, because I don’t particularly care for Olson.

Yeah. I was born John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmitt. Now I am just Humpty Dumpty. That's MUCH easier for others to remember.

I think you should change your name to a very slight alternate spelling of your current name. Then, when a friend you've know for a long time writes your name, start screaming at him like a wild person that you're damn sick and tired of him misspelling your name. When he gets all confused, show him your official ID and yell and scream some more.

Ahhh... good times.

Even better, just swap out your last name for your first. "Smith John... no... it's always been Smith John"

I have not changed my legal name. Nor would I have any interest to make a change.

My oldest sister changed her name from Wendy, to Wendi, and finally to Windy.

I have always liked the name Locke. Thought about using it for one of my kids when I get around to having them, but then this whole LOST thing came along. Now I'm afraid my kid would get branded a product of a stupid tv show fascination. Anyway, still a good name.

All you need to do is get married in New York State. Both parties get a free name change.

I think you should go with one of those fancy symbols that can't be pronounced.

Have you thought about the fact that most people you know are going to deride you for changing your name?

Someone once sent me a few sugar-cubes of LSD through the mail with a return name of Hugh G. Rection from the French Quarter.

I knew who it was though.

not when we got married 15 years ago. Have they changed the law? I can't remember exactly but I seem to remember that at that time we could only choose from a last name that was actually already existant for one of us. We both changed our last names to a new third one and had to do it through the courts. It wasn't all THAT difficult, we were able to handle most of it ourselves.

We dumped two 10 letter last names and chose a new 4 letter one. The name of my mother-in-law's home town.

I changed my last name this past summer. Used my mom's maiden (last) name, because it's cool. And my previous last name was tied to bad history.
Do you want forgiveness or respect?

never done it, despite what society and my grandmother thinks. (she addresses mail to what my "traditional" married name would be.) My husband's name and mine would not have been a good hyphenation.
