Either way, he's getting way more attention than he deserves.

Hoax. Phoenix is a nutcase but I think he was acting and playing it up. He's always acted aloof.

Isn't it some right of passage to **** with Letterman at some point? Seems like he's the only one that gets random behavior from guests.

It's a show, I believe.

Like Richard Simmons and Bruce Willis, just creepier (although being creepier than Simmon's appearances is debatable).

Looks like Phoenix is constantly trying to muster the willpower to get through the ditty without stomping on Letterman's head. You know, with Letterman being a patronising donkeyorifice and all.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

God I hope it's real because the way the average unit lives his/her lives is sad

His difficult moments from his life are being watch and witnessed by millions.... while yours you conceal behind closed doors of your homes. There's little difference.

I wish more people would flip out, the world might be a better place.

(I love how Davie cracks on him for chewing gum then when they go to the clip he was chewing gum there also). ha

I gotta call BS on this. Casey Affleck, Phoenix' brother-in-law, was filming him for a while in public under his new persona. I suspect that this is all part of some 'project' these two cooked up.

Yeah, IMDB has an "untitled Joaquin Phoenix documentary" listed as a future movie. This is some sort of Andy Kaufmanesque stunt.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1356864/

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

"Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight" is all-time. Legendary.

I love the look on Phoenix's face after it - he wants to be pissed, but starts cracking up.

And it sounds like Phoenix is slurring his words so badly that he didn't want to talk, because he knew something bad would happen. My guess is Vicodin.
