Looks very nice, but unfortunately, both are extremely slow for me. For some reason, this is true of all the new iWeb sites and galleries I’ve seen. They take upwards of a minute in loading, especially the galleries.

I don't have a personal site per se. Not yet anyway. I do have my portfolio site which is pretty much exclusively design and work related, though I'm in the process of giving it a major facelift and update as I haven't done so in quite some time. A truly personal site will be done once I know of what use having a personal site is, which I don't.

Same for me. Too slow to be useful.

Also, some of the pics are really low res. Is how you uploaded them, GuillaumeB ?

It wasn't made with iWeb, but mikecosentino.com is my website and photo gallery.

edit. It seems like dreamhost is having trouble today.

I think iWeb galleries are so load to load is because of the skimming that you can do with a gallery. Each gallery has to load a small thumbnail of each picture which takes a considerable amount of time. It looks neat though when it does load!

Works for me in Safari. This is the first time I've seen the new photo scrolling feature. I guess I'll have to reactivate my .Mac account. Pretty cool.

My laptop is only OS 10.3.9- older safari... I just think it's funny they don't list Safari 2 or 3 as supported.

As much as I love having .Mac, and for some reaosn continue to pay for it and use it, I like doing all my blog and photo hosting elsewhere. Anyways, after a lot of work and a lot of craziness, I have all my photos hosted in a fun filled way through MovableType.

At least until I try and set up the export system with the new iPhoto, which I will bet probably broke it. Sigh...

A little off topic, but I wonder if there is a simple/clean way to use my .Mac web gallery on one of my commercial sites. I like it so much better than Coppermine and some of the other PHP galleries that are out there.

and no...I won't do frames. I just won't.

To answer this question, you could use the PHP file_get_contents function to retrieve your entire webpage and assign it to a string, then parse the gallery from this string using regular expression matching. Basically:

Where the "mygallery" div tag is a wrapper around your gallery marking its start and finish.

Yeah, iPhoto '08 broke my uploader for my webpage, (I BE ANGRY) and seeing how the little program has was discontinued quite a while ago, it looks like I may have to just do the .Mac one.

Does anyone know of any GOOD gallery templates for Movable type? It runs my webpage, and I would love it to run my galleries. (Though I am loving the GUI of .Mac galleries, even if it requires you to have a nice big bandwith pipe.)

Small, but I like it. Except the resume page. I really need to re-do it. I did it basically in iWeb and added some code into the HTML editor later.

How were you able to upload the template to FreeWebs? I'm having issues. What is the address to upload it to?

When you publish to a Folder, you have to upload it exactly how it is in the folder.

So you have to upload them in the hierarchy that they are in. the index page should be uploaded to the main directory, and then you need to create a folder named "Site" and put everything inside the "Site" folder on your computer into the "Site" folder on freewebs.

Make sense?

Wow. Safari + iWeb Galleries + large numbers of photos = badness.

Safari can't load that many images. Goes into overload. Blows up. Not even my new Macbook Pro can handle it.

My iMac loads it in about 9-10 seconds.

Those galleries have very cool designs, but all of those png files that are preloaded sure have a massive overhead... I'm not sure whether I see the merits of scanning through the gallery on mouseover either.

Are you being facetious, or do you really think this is a hardware problem? Why doesn't it occur to you that this might be a software problem of some sort?

800 MHz = slow. No matter what the software, it shouldn't be able to load faster than a MacBook. Whether it is the actual MacBook or the software on it, it should be checked out.

I agree that something is not right, I just thought that you were referring specifically to the hardware.

A lot of people sort of interchange "my ___ computer" with "my setup on my ____ computer under ___ OS", it can be rather confusing at times... (a common example is "my PC loads this webpage fine", not differentiating between PC hardware, the OS, and the web browser running on the OS).

In this case, the fact that he has a Macbook seems irrelevant.

Ahhh, but did anyone click on a gallery? Once I click on one Safari keep loading and loading and loading and spinning and spinning and spinning. The first load is fine, but viewing and going back to the main page (when it loads all the roll over images) is when life sucks.

I'm not the only one, my friend experienced the same thing when he was browsing through the pages. I've been waiting for a minute now and safari just keep spinning.

it was slow, but in about 40 seconds it was all loaded. once again eMac 800 MHz.

That didn't happen with me. All loaded just fine and I was able to jump back and forth between galleries and the main page.
