Does anyone know a way of using the pivot feature of some LCDs with OS X? NEC's LCD monitors can rotate 90 degrees to a portrait mode but there doesn't seem to be any software available for OS X that will support this (the screen rotates and so does the image, which is a problem).

If you buy a retail ATI 9800 Pro, does its driver software support this?

thanks,
fh

No -- the same software drives the retail and OEM cards.

Someone should write pivot software for OS X, but until that happens, no, you can't use that feature .

(It's one I'd like to see.)

Yes, the Ati Control Panel for the Retail 9800 Pro supports portrait display mode.

It's called Versavision. You can go 90 degrees CW, 90 degrees CCW, or even 180 degrees (upside down).

Interesting. I have a 9600 in my G5 right now and I've really got no interest in the 9800 (I don't play games on my Mac). It's really too bad this functionality isn't available in the OS or that there isn't a video driver available for the standard 9600 card (or even Apple's 9800). It doesn't look like I can buy a 9600 retail. I guess Apple has no interest in making this work, as it would hurt their LCD business (since their LCDs don't pivot). Sigh...

thanks,
fh
