I have purchased a DVD-RW disk with the intention of proofing my DVD projects (after some mistakes that have cost me DVD-R disks!).
Only iDVD v2.1 does not recognise the disk and ejects it.
If I just insert the disk without iDVD running the Mac is quite happy and will let me format and write data to it.
I am running OS X .15.

I read somewhere that the key is to initially put in a DVD-R disk, then while the machine is encoding and getting the files ready to burn, simply swap out the DVD-R disk with a DVD-RW disk..and it should burn to the DVD-RW disk..

Yes, that solution does work. I regularly "proof" DVD projects in progress on DVD-RW ...

How do you re-write the DVD-RW disc? If you need a DVD-R disc in the drive to start out, erase or re-write won't be an option that you could select.

Erase the DVD-RW with Disk Utility before you start iDVD
Eject DVD-RW and start iDVD
Select burn DVD, then iDVD will prompt you to insert DVD-R
Insert DVD-R, and as soon as iDVD starts encoding/multiplexing, press keyboard eject
Insert DVD-RW, close drive, and iDVD will write to the DVD-RW
Voila, instant DVD on DVD-RW media !!

Thanks for the info.
I wonder why Apple will not let you burn DVD-RW media?
