I wander away for a minute, and look what I find when I get back. This light is off-the-hook bright... and hot. With a reflector and a lens to focus it all. Did I mention it's hot?

When I got closer, I noticed his fur was starting to smoke.

Yes, I'm glad you got a photo before you put the cat out.

"Closer" would be post photo. I thought I was safe in the assumption that if the light was hurting him, he would have moved away.

He would have moved away on his own soon. And he'd avoid bright lights in the future.

However, the neighbors might comment on a flaming cat racing out of your house. They might even assume your kids or yourself did it.

I had another cat walk over a lit candle in an attempt to get some kitteh love from me.

Apparently, "stop, drop, and roll" translated to "screech, jump, and run" in her language, so I had to apply a flying football tackle.

This was before the Internet, otherwise I would have grabbed a camera first.

Did this yesterday with that same light.

It only hurts when I grab something.

Did I mention it gets hot?

I've had cats burn off good chunks of their fur and whiskers many times.

Candles and cats are a bad combination.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Did they ever actually get burnt skin, or did they only lose hair?

Not that I noticed. Usually you'd notice that nasty burnt hair smell only to then find you cat missing half his whiskers... or a nice chunk of tail fur. If they got burnt at all it wasn't serious.

I had to be careful about candles and my cat, Mr. Spuds. He's lost more whiskers than I can count because he likes to sniff the candles.

Good deal. It was the same with my cat.

After it happened once, I became candle nazi.

Indeed. Candles and pets are a nice way to burn a house down.

And you have this light because...?

Are you planning to burn someone's junk off?
