I can't figure out the difference between the client and the actual software. Also, say I have two macs, X and Y, no y isn't cool, Z, yeah.

Ok, So lets say I want to view X from Z, what would I have to install on X and Z for that? Client, App, both?

Ok, Lets say I would also be using COVNC to view Z from X, would it be more efficent to install a client and an app on both?

I am I sounding like some kind of fool who can't get something right?

Just tell me a simple way to view X from Z, and later on that day, view Zfrom X, what do I need to install?

Thanks a lot.
I miss the days of the G5 and XPS Pentium 4 running side by side as high-end machines.

The machine you wish to control needs to have a VNC server running and the appropriate ports open. In 10.4 there is a VNC server built in. The enabling of which is done through the Access Privileges button under the Apple Remote Desktop option of the Sharing pane of System Preferences.

The machine you wish to control from needs the client (Chicken Of The VNC in this case).

Also, if you're using a version of OS X from before Tiger, you can use an app called OSXvnc as the server. It has more options than the built-in one as well, so you can do things like run different users on different ports with Fast User Switching; or different machines on different ports if you've more than one behind a router and you want to observe them both from the rest of the internet.
