I'm back from a business trip this morning, so I hook up my MacBook Pro to my dell 2405 monitor and the resolution is at 1440x900. The same resolution as the MBP's display. The display is not set to mirror but to span. I cannot see the option to select the resolution of 1920x1200. I tried deleting the ~/library preference display file and reboot but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Found the problem.

It seems that 10.5.2 introduced a bug that caused external displays not to be recognized correctly. There's a bunch of threads over at the apple discussions forum about this.

The work around it seems is to book the MBP up, then connect the monitor, it will then correctly recognize it.
