It seems that the LifeLock CEO was the victim of ID theft. You know the guy, his commercial involves him and displaying his social security number. Well that looks it back fired on him

Yeah, Matt Lauer actually interviewed him on the today show this morning about it. He gave a pretty pathetic excuse. Looks like that business is over.

Its weird that when I change the name, I lose the entire url. Its fixed even if its not visually pleasing.

The business model for lifelock was that they kept hammering away the credit bureaus putting on fraud alerts. In fact one of the credit bureaus was (is?) going to sue them because that's against the policies. Only the actual people can do that etc. So they're not offering any secret way to keep your identity safe.

I agree they're toast when the CEO gets burned by identity theft

Does LifeLock Really Work?

Now they're emphasizing the "Even if you have your identity stolen, we'll cover you" aspect on the service.

To be honest, what kind of place gives out loans w/o checking the three major credit rating agencies ?

I don't like LifeLock and the CEO, but that kind of identity theft is plain stupid.
This loan place basically gave out a loan w/o doing a credit check. HOW the heck is anyone going to prevent this or send you an alert ?

It's highly dubious that credit was extended without a credit check from at least one of the three bureaus.

There are just some things that one obviously shouldn't do, like taunt the vicious dog, even if he's tied and behind the fence, or walk out into the middle of a war zone, even if you have a bullet proof vest on, or barbecue naked, even if you're sure of which sausage to cook.

They're just not prudent things to do. There's nothing to gain, and potentially something to lose, but the ego often lures folks into a false sense of security. In this case, ambition can be added to that list. Though I wished him no harm, of course, his misfortune is merely the result of an injudicious act.

But, he probably has nothing to worry about. Lots and lots of folks continue to support and evangelize businesses and organizations which have completely failed to live up to their claims every day.

According to the Wall Street Journal (today's print edition), that's EXACTLY what happened, and that's where the LifeLock monitoring system broke down, because it only monitors Equifax, Experian and Transunion.
