They have to do it soon. I heard on NPR that some type of holiday is coming up and there is a law about executing someone during a holiday that they celebrate.

Wouldn't that be feed him McDonalds until he is grossly overweight, then pay him disability until he dies of a heart attack?

Nope, still don't support the death penalty - not even for Saddam.
I could have had loads of fun chaining him up in my shed and nipping out to beat the crap out of him when I get bored of wine, women and song.

I agree, it seems a bit hypocritical to kill someone for killing people.

It feels wrong for a number of reasons. Saddam is being executed for suppressing possible factional violence, which is what the US troops are having to do now.
Of course he took it way to far, but still...

I've been thinking this too. But I need to reflect and figure out why.
I think I feel like we just put down a dog for barking too loud.
Edit: This metaphor feels incomplete. Old toothless dog? Dog that used to bite? I dunno...

I really doubt it that Saddam will be hung before the new year. It just seems highly improbable that the timing will work out this way.
Anybody care to place a bet with me? Heheh... you'd be a fool to do so, but sometimes it's fun being right!

Maybe it feels wrong because you are so far removed from all of the things he has done.
I think that feelings are not given enough credit in America. It seems that if we react because of our feelings we are put down as a tree-hugger, liberal etc. That being said, it is just as wrong to pay too much attention to our feelings as it is to ignore them.
There are a lot of wrong and evil things that go on in this world. Executing someone who has done so much evil to SO MANY people sure seems like one of the "lesser" evils to me. You don't have to like it to support it.

Just found this picture somewhere:
Doesn't Saddam look like that Thompson guy from Tintin comics?

A little late night reflection has me at: He wasn't broken enough. We should have broken him. We should have had him at the point where he was begging to be forgiven for his crimes. And then kept him that way.

Not quite. Saddam was responsible for thousands, Hitler was responsible for millions.
Apparently he was just killed, so I guess I was wrong. I didn't think they'd do it.

Maybe thats what Sadam was thinking when he ordered all those executions.
I think we should draw the line and start acting like civilized people, hanging people from ropes until they die is hardly setting an example to the developing world.
Stick the bastard in solitary for the rest of his life, I'm sure he can pay the bill.

The Germans made lampshades out of Jewish skin too!

In Iraq it is illegal to execute someone above the age of 70. There was not much more time to execute him.
All his crimes should have been processed in court. His victims would have deserved it. If that means he could not have been executed any more, then so be it. Setting an example of civilisation and rule of law is more important.

Yes, I'm aware of his (and his family's) crimes. That's why I'd have come up with something more inventive than hanging.

It feels perfectly right. He almost killed my dad ( indirectly) quite a few times in Saudi Arabia. I feel safer since his butt is in hell and he can't break out of prison or whatnot. I feel safer now that he's gone.

I am not clear this will make anything better. Actually, his hanging today was a direct insult to the other part of Iraq, clearly, an act that will aggravate the situation.
People who feel Hussein's death will make them safer from him are right, but that part of the world will now turn chaotic for real, and there will not be much safety for anyone in Middle East.
