Well well well, I didn't know about bitpim. Good to know there's at least one of these programs for OS X, so one doesn't have to use a Wintel machine. Unfortunately, from searching their mailing lists, it seems bitpim used to support my phone, but they removed support at some point.

Oh well. I'm only stuck with crappy Verizon for one more year... damn contract...

What, do they do the same crap that Verizon does, blocking you from uploading ringtones to the phone unless you hack it?

My phone doesn't support custom rings. Even if it did, I don't think I'd use one. I'm all about the vibrations.

Okay, I listened again without as much other noise in the room. That's it. Just a very strange rendition, sounds very saloonish.

The version I have, which I got from Cingular, can't be taken off my phone to play for you because of some protection on it. Grr...

Bloody cellular companies. This pisses me off. Copy-protecting professionally-recorded AAC/WMA/whatever files is one thing, but copy-protecting a 5-second MIDI ring tone?! And not letting me make my own with Finale and upload it to my phone?! I'm sorry, Verizon, I can't buy a Prokofiev ring tone from you for $2.00, because you don't have any Prokofiev ring tones! All you have are Celine Dion crap and the like... grr.

That Mario Bros 1UP sound is great, i wanted to use it as the SMS alert in my T610 and i just realized that's not possible to add custom sound to messeges

Do you have more Mario Bros mids besides the main theme that could be use for call sounds?

I hate music polyphonic tones, so i use the old ringer in the T610, it would be nice to have some other cool non-melodic polyphonic ringers though. So if anybody have some, please post them.

Because I'm a big geek, I am currently using this. And if I can figure out how to do it, this will be my text message alert sound.

I think its funny that the cost for a ring tone is more expensive than an ITMS song.

It's an insane, insane rip-off. I'm all for people getting paid for their work, but a MIDI ringtone is not $2 worth of work. I can make one in 5 minutes. Anthonyvthc, I could make you a Chopin Prelude Op. 28, No. 20 ringtone easily, if there were just some way to get the MIDI file onto your phone! Argh...

The irritating thing is that the phone companies advertise ringtones as expressing your individuality? Huh? I can express my individuality by buying the same ringtone from Verizon that everyone else is buying? And paying $2 for the privilege? BS. It's not one bit original if you can't make the thing yourself!

What do you mean? Most of current phones can receive MIDI files via Bluetooth very easily. I've loaded many from the web to my T610.

Not on Verizon, which I'm unfortunately stuck with. Read a little bit up in this thread.

I don't think Verizon even supports any Bluetooth phones...

Sometimes this (from the Kill Bill soundtrack, or this, when not silent.

I'd LOVE to get the original Ericsson ringer. I think it was called MIXED (from the days when Ericsson was still independent). Anyone have that?

Verizon does have bluetooth phones, just not a wide variety of them. For most phones, you can make your own ringtones and upload them with a data cable. You could probably find an older version of bitpim somewhere if that's what's required for your handset.

I'm in total agreement that commercial tones are overpriced, especially compared to the price of a whole song from iTunes.

That would be hilarious. I think the funniest ringer I'v ever heard was during geometry class last year (in high school) someone's phone rang and it was a female voice having an orgasm. It was really funny because I go to a private, all boys school. and we are not even supposed to have phones out of our locker during the school day.

Convert to a 16-bit mono WAV file and compress with this (unfortunately, it only runs in classic)

Then upload it here. You'll still pay data transfer fees (about $0.01 per Kb if you don't have a vision pack), but no extra charge for the privilege to download an annoying ringtone.

Right now, I'm using the Trogdor theme.
