Yeah right. Aren't you the one getting married soon? I see a mini van in your future.

87 HP, 1.3L 4-cylinder Daihatsu YRV ("Young Recreational Vehicle" ):

Power everything, air conditioning, extremely low miles, decent fuel economy, about a sixth of the taxes I paid for the van, and about half the insurance.
I would've thought I'd never be caught dead in something like that, but it was a great deal.

And, despite being a lot smaller than it looks (great parking), it fits a Rhodes plus amp, or three 'boards, stands, seat, percussion, and two people.

This is all discussed in the book's biography, Car: A Drama of the American Workplace. (It's a fantastic read, even if you don't give a rat's patoot about cars.)

I seem to recall that model of Taurus was supposed to be based off the Ford logo (oval shape).
It was integrated into much of the exterior and interior design elements (rather unsuccessfully).
The side profile, the front grill, the head lights, taillights, center radio/AC console , etc.
It was this model that led to the downfall of the Taurus in the 90's.

Yeah, is it too much to ask to post actual photos of your vehicle guys? Kinda defeats the purpose of the thread to do otherwise.

Sorta. It sold fine initially, but Ford had seen cost overruns during development which forced them to price the vehicle higher than they'd initially wanted - so once the initial demand had faded, sales followed. They tried putting cash on the hood to move models, but quickly started losing money at point of sale. Then, rather than aggressively work at the next generation of the vehicle, they decided to keep pushing the same thing the next for 11 model years with only cosmetic and minor mechanical enhancements.

There's a reason there are a few books covering G1-G3 Taurus development; it's a lot more complicated than 'round glass pushed people away'.

Here's Oliver The First. It's been about 14 months since I sold him to a couple in Perth - newly arrived Irish backpackers, on their way to Melbourne. Neither of them had ever driven an automatic, made for an interesting test drive.

I hope he's still kicking ass and taking names.

Here's one of the Cherokee...

Suck it, skeeters!

Edit: 95 Cherokee Sport. Had it for 10 years. It served well but was falling apart even though it had less than 100K on it. That's what street parking in Chicago will do.

I drove this car for 10 years before buying an Accord a few months ago. Nothing major ever broke and the car was reliable as hell. It kind of sucks knowing that I will probably never have another car that lasts almost 20 years like this one did.

THANK YOU!!! I've always wondered the same thing. It reminds of the rear-ends of bumper cars from the late 60's.

Just for comparison with the Taurus, which we don't get in Europe, here's a 1998 Mondeo 4 door.

I don't currently own a car. Here's what I've owned over the years:

1980 Ford Fiesta (my first car... will always have a soft spot in my heart for that little thing):

1984 Pontiac Fiero:

1988 Merkur Scorpio:

1990 Ford Festiva (commuter car... that thing lasted 11 years and cost me almost nothing. Mine was Surf Blue in color.):

1994 Mercedes C280:

1998 Mercedes SLK280:

2003 Mercedes E320:

Yeah, it recaptures the spunk of the original in a way the New Beetle never did. Plus the interior looks fantastic, IMO.

Sorry, the Beetle is a minger. Always has been, always will be. Lump the Porsche 911 in with that too, if you like.
