What is the current recommended drive for upgrading an 80gb Macbook?
And what's the easiest way to transfer the data? I currently use SuperDuper so I assume I would do a full backup to my firewire external drive, fit the new drive and do a basic OS X install, install SuperDuper and then do a full restore.

Search the forums and ye shall find, this has been discussed many times before... you could use SuperDuper or Migration Assistant if you wanted?

We've got a couple of those WD 250GB 5400rpm drives installed on some machines. They're very quiet and we didn't notice much speed difference compared to stock & that newegg price is hard to beat.
There's also a 250GB Fujitsu if your interested and they just announced a 300GB variant (4200rpm though)

I have the Samsung 250 GB drive (5400 rpm) installed in my MB. There is a very faintly audible sound as the drive spins if the room is dead quiet. I can't hear the head seeks. Overall quite pleased. You can never have too much storage space.
If I really need to use a fast drive, I can either hook up one of my external firewire drives or simply use the tower machine. For my daily usage including writing code, light Photoshop, web browsing and mail, the MacBook is more than plenty fast with this drive.

They have 7200 RPM hard-drives for the MacBook Pro as well. You can run apps much faster with the bigger the hard-drive, so get one that has lots of storage and speed!
