Applications really shouldn't be affecting the amount of memory available to the OS they're running under, should they?

They shouldn't, but sometimes they do.

Parallels would not function properly unless you limited the RAM to 2 GB... until now.

Where did you get 1910? I tried the Parallels website, but the only download is 1898.

It also kept my new iMac from crashing the very minute you tried to start the VM. However I can't connect to the internet even though it works fine in bootcamp. Does bootcamp still not support the apple bluetooth keyboard, cause it seems to find it, however I can't seem to get it to work at all.

1898 already worked for the new iMac, but had the 2 GB limitation. You probably downloaded 1848 or something. 1848 doesn't work on the 64-bit Macs. Check your version in the "About Parallels Desktop" menu option.

We both have the 24", but my wireless LAN works fine. My wired does not however, for some reason.

So, whenever I run Parallels, I turn on wireless on my iMac.
