Can you watch DVD movies on your home television with a TiBook? I know that it has an S-Video output, so I would think that it would work pretty well. Has anyone tried it?

Does the picture quality look relatively good and can you do wide aspect or standard on a TV and do the aspect ratios work out correctly?

ATi video output is great. It's significantly less grainy than nVIDIA output. It'll work fine on your TV using S-video. It's like watching a DVD on your TV from a DVD player connected via an S-video cable.

Anything with a DVD-ROM drive and S-video output will work.

I've tried it with an S-video cable as well as a composite connection (using the converter that came with it).
Works fine, though I suppose it would be nice to have a remote for it...

KeySpan Digital Media Remote was one of the best $49 I spent...and it works just fine under Jaguar with the beta drivers, which you can get from KeySpan's website.

What settings do you use?

More specifically...

Separate display or video mirroring? What sort of resolution?

When I have tried it in the past with the s-video to composite connector I had to fiddle with the settings for a while. Also, I don't think that I could get it to work as a separate display, only as mirroring.

I've had no problems using my tibook to watch dvd's on a tv. A remot would be handy, no doubt.

In previous builds of OS X I used to be able to restart the computer while connected to the tv, and quickly close the lid before it starts up and it would only dispaly onto the tv. I found that the quality of the video was significantly better this way. X.1 & X.2 don't allow you to do this anymore so I use mirroring which works great but the quality of the DVD doesn't look as good. I've fiddled around with the color sync settings to try to fix the color but to no avail. I guess I'm just exadurating, but it just makes the visual artifacts more visible on the tv. I aught to play around with the gamma settings I guess.

I have a DVI powerbook running 10.1.5.

I find if I shut the lid, plug in the TV and then plug in the power supply to the powerbook, it wakes up using only the TV. You can then control it using an external mouse.

This might work with the Keyspan IR remote, but I haven't got one yet.

I've tried it and it works fine, but the picture looks soooooo much better if you just watch it on the Ti screen that I usually do that. Or course if you have 5 people over at your house it's another story, but a TV screen looks terrible to me compared to a computer screen!
